Re: BrucesWay Revised

Hi Bruce,

Would you be able to explain the key differences between your method and the stock method of installing LM?

I've only done a couple of installs, so I'm no expert, but I've always found the stock method to be very easy to follow.

Cheers,

JT

Re: Eth0 not working, adapter OK

One thing left to try is delete the gateway address (on both computers), just leave it blank setting each machine with a static IP for ethernet in IPv4 ? Thanks guys, between the two of you, you set me on the right path... Turns out, there were a couple of problems... On my laptop eth0, I had the s...

Not sure, but whatever it is, I've successfully used it to network two PCs together before.

Cheers mate, thanks for helping anyway... Computers - great when they do what you want them to do, bad when they do what you tell them to do.

Re: Eth0 not working, adapter OK

Nope, didn't work... Should it, for this type of network? So my router is wifi only; I've got no cat6 cable connecting to it. My OP might not have described it properly (sorry about that). Router connects to everything via wifi. One of these is my laptop. PC has no wifi capability, only ethernet. So...

Re: Eth0 not working, adapter OK

Question . . How does your Router know that you decided to use a different subnet ? I have no idea... I know a little bit about simple networking, but it's certainly not my forte. Honestly, I don't care if the pc never gets internet access... If it does, yay, if not, meh. All I want it to do is rem...

[solved]Eth0 not working, adapter OK

Hey guys, I've got a perplexing problem trying to network my laptop (running LM 17.2, cinnamon) & pc (Win 7). The goal is to be able to remote desktop from my pc into LM, which I believe can be done by VNC server. Problem is, my pc & laptop can't talk to each other over eth0. I know it isn't hardwar...

Try asking for help on these boards. You'll find plenty of people who "give-a-****" about fixing your problem. Don't blame the young-uns for dodgy business practices.

Re: No HDMI Audio (Solved, sort of)

Jerry,

Did you try (to set to HDMI audio)

Code: Select all

pactl set-card-profile 0 output:hdmi-stereo
and

Code: Select all

  pactl set-card-profile 0 output:analog-stereo

to set it back to analogue?

Re: Subwoofer on Lenovo computer: how to get it to work?

Hey, I don't use subs, but a quick google suggested a couple of options: edit /etc/pulse/default.pa and add this line at the end: load-module module-combine channels=6 channel_map=front-left,front-right,rear-left,rear-right,front-center,lfe (from here or otherwise, this looked pretty promising... Re: touchpad works on live cd, but not once installed

Just getting the obvious solutions out the way first...

When you click Menu -> Mouse and Touchpad, then click on the Touchpad screen, is the Enable Touchpad option set to "on"?

Sorry if I'm stating the obvious, but I remember needing to to that last time I installed Mint a year or so ago.

Re: Auto-set hotspot?

Alright... So I've done a bit of googling around, and I thought I'd share my findings in case anyone else is struggling to set up hotspots via terminal. Setting it up on your own is an absolute nightmare, but there's a handy piece of software out there called create_ap . So you install it: git clone...

[Solved] Test if command returns given value?

Hi guys, So I'm battling away trying to implement a script that tests whether I've got a wired internet connection (if wired, set up access point; or if unplugged, connect to wifi) So I've worked out how to test if my link layer is up using ethtool eth0 . This spits out a page or so of information, ...

Auto-set hotspot?

Hi folks, I'm a little bit stuck (completely bamboozled, if I'm honest) with a little project I'm working on, so I thought I'd pick your collective brains... So, I'm wanting to use my laptop as a hotspot, but *only* when it's plugged into ethernet. When it's unplugged, I want it to connect to my exi...

What's up with gedit?

Hey guys, I'm having some trouble with output redirection. I'm running a pdf search program called pdfgrep (it's amazing, highly recommended) and am trying to save my results to a file. I've aliased a long pdfgrep command to fpdf in my .bashrc so I don't mistype it. When I try and do: fpdf foo >> ~/...

Fantastic! Thanks.

Hopefully I won't need it too much when LM 18 comes out, but good to know just in case.

Re: Curious

Ubuntu is FrankenDebian! Isn't there an old gag saying "Ubuntu" is actually South-African for "Can't install Debian"? Exactly. It's for all us country hicks that couldn't tell the difference between /usr and /sys. We may not know how to compile from source, nor give any fox to learn to do so. But w...
