Re: Resize/merge /var and /swap in encrypted lvm Volume

Thank you for the useful program. It seems to take a lot of time until something is displayed there. in htop it shows 100% cpu usage and doesn't show any disks. The output of your two commands are like this: user@user-laptop ~ $ sudo df -hT|grep ^/dev /dev/sdb1 ext4 28G 18G 8,2G 69% / /dev/mapper/mi...

Re: Resize/merge /var and /swap in encrypted lvm Volume

I think it worked. Here is what I did. First I removed /dev/mapper/mint_hdd-swap using: # lvremove /dev/mapper/mint_hdd-swap Then the output was at fellows: user@user-laptop ~ $ sudo vgs -o vg_name,pv_count,lv_count,vg_fmt,vg_attr,vg_size,vg_free,vg_extent_size,vg_extent_count,vg_free_count mint_hdd...

<SOLVED> Resize/merge /var and /swap in encrypted lvm Volume

Dear Linux experts, I am running LM 18.3 , where the main system is on a SSD and the /home, /swap, /var and /tmp folders are on a HDD. The HDD is encrypted with LVM. As I constantly getting my /var to 100% filled up (actually it has 8GB) I like to merge the /swap with the /var partition to one /var ...

No ssd swap althoug configured

Dear Linux MInt community, for a long time now I do have a strange problem with swapping. I have a SSD where the system is installed on, the rest goes to a normal HDD. After reinstalling LM 18.3 it seems to happen that LM is using the HDD for swap, althoug I've configured it to use SSD. This slows t...

Re: qt4 based applications uses strange color desgin

Hi there,

thank you for your idea. Unfortunately I already have this package installed.
Would have been too simple to solve it like this :)

Best wishes,
Max

qt4 based applications uses strange color desgin

Dear Linux users, since I use Linux Mint 18.3 I've got some strange behaviour with qt4 based applications. At least I guess its related to qt4 ;) I was using KeepassX and got strange colors in the application. Now I use keepassxc which fits in the overall design very well. But I am also using Backin...

Re: Some strange problems with Nvidia Optimus on a Dell M4600 laptop

Thank you very much for taking your time to help me! I think I've solved the problem now, but long term testing will show the truth. I use the kernel of the 4.4 series. But the problem seems to be solved as I installed bumblebee aside the Nvidia drivers.

Some strange problems with Nvidia Optimus on a Dell M4600 laptop

Dear Community, I am running Linux Mint 18.3 since yesterday and like it a lot. But there is a strange problem with the Nvidia Card. Or maybe more with the Intel graphics card. The install of the Nvidia drivers were very easy and successful. But my laptop is always wants to run with the Nvidia card....

Re: How to mount an existing LVM encrypted /home, /var and /tmp folder during boot?

I've got it! It was the fstab file I guess. I did a reinstall of the Mint system and after setting up all the files explained above I did a restart. Of course I ran into the same error. But I looked through the error log and saw something about multiple entries for /tmp in fstab. After removing tmpf...

Re: How to mount an existing LVM encrypted /home, /var and /tmp folder during boot?

Hi Lauren, thanks for your idea! This definitely changed something. Now I am asked to enter my pass phrase, but still getting error messages ending up in the command line. I made some photos of the boot process. First it seems there is a name missing. _DSC6915.jpeg Then it asks for the pass phrase. ...

How to mount an existing LVM encrypted /home, /var and /tmp folder during boot?

Dear Linux Mint users, today I updated from Linux Mint 17.2 to 18.3. I installed LM17 with LVM encryption on the folders /home , /var and /tmp . This way I alway had to enter my passphrase during the boot process. These 3 folder are on a normal 1Tb HDD, the system is on a 60 Gb SSD as you can see in...

Hi Linux22, thank you a lot for your great howto on encryption. I have used it with success, but with little changes. I have two hard disks, one SSD and one HDD. The / is on the SSD an remains unencrypted and the HDD contains /home, /var, /tmp and swap and is fully encrypted. The only problem is now...

Setup Linux Mint on SSD + HDD, with LVM encryption

Hello, I have a few questions about a Linux Mint system using a SSD for the system and a HDD for the rest. And if its possible to use a LVM Encryption in this setup. Actually I have one disk only which is LVM encrypted, to do this for one disk is not very difficult, but to do this for SSD+HDD confus...

CPU frequenz and fan speed in Mint 17

Hello, I use Linux Mint 17 with Mate in 64bit Version on an HP Compaq 8510w. It runs good, exept the case that the cpu speed sometimes gets confused. Sometimes when I shut the lid and open it again the CPU speed is stuck at 800MHz. Also the fan speed is very strange. Sometimes the fan runs at a low ...
