Re: I'm comparing a few distros

I'd like to see you put a e17 distro alongside the lxde, maybe PCLOS when its completed. I'm also interested in getting older hardware, specifically my family's old p4 1.6 ghz willamette, to fly.

Re: Slitaz 3.0

This little distro will probably find a great deal of use on older computers. Their use of lxde + openbox is amazing. Everything looks great, including the system settings tools they provide. For example, the inclusion of a tool that adds icons to the desktop is amazing for people who don't favor do...

Re: Elive 2.0

Unfortunately the development version seems to be MIA from the mirrors elivecd.org provides. There's no way I'm paying for this, so I think I'll wait for Mint LXDE and add e17 and then maybe check out PCLOS2010. It's what distrohopping is all about!

Elive 2.0

Seems pretty polished. Any thoughts on it, its forced payment and the prospects of e17 in the linux world?

Re: LXDE Distro?

Thanks for the input, I think I'll burn PCLOS LXDE and install it once my Christmas break starts (so I can be there for the bug fixes :P)

Re: LXDE Distro?

I've used Crunchbang for extended periods of time on my laptop with much success. However this is a family computer and I dont feel like my family is really prepared for the whole no-icon desktop. That concept scares people who have only ever used Windows! I can say that I am probably going to go wi...

LXDE Distro?

I've been using Mint 6 XFCE CE on my family's old desktop (512mb, 1 GHZ, P4, Old Geforce) for quite some time and have been impressed with it. However it is still not as snappy as I believe many new LXDE distros could be. With delays in Lubuntu and seemingly a standstill on Mint LXDE I was hoping fo...

Re: Anyone trying OpenSuse 11.2 ???

I burn all my ISO's to a USB thumb drive of 4 GB big. There are very easy instructions to go by out on Pendrivelinux.com, if you have never done it before. I had downloaded an EXE file when I put Fedora on it a while back in order to make it bootable and now I use that EXE file in Window for all di...

Re: Anyone trying OpenSuse 11.2 ???

I've been testing out the big distros as they've been released and got the final of OpenSuse tonight. Also have been playing with Mandriva 2010. I'm still fairly new to Linux (yet to make it my main OS) and enjoy distro hoping. Being a distrohopper I dont have the money or patience to burn CDs and h...

Re: Mint LXDE CE OFFICIAL!!!

Very interested in using this on an old 1.6GHZ 512MB Ram P4 with Nvidia Geforece2 as I am finding Xfce maybe just one step too much for the old girl. Might try e17 this week. For those of you using LXDE with mint already what CE are you using with it? I was thinking about Fluxbox or maybe even the u...

Re: Google Chrome OS

I was dumbfounded when I heard the word linux on a Canadian News channel. Until about a year ago I had no idea what Linux was. I'm not so sure about Google's OS and how it will impact Microsoft but I believe it is a benefit to Linux supporters to have a large and widely known company behind a linux ...

Re: Linux Mint 7 "Gloria" KDE RC1 released!

Have 1GB Ram 1.73 GHZ celeron laptop. Im not much of a hardware expert but do you guys think an upgrade would give me some more noticeable speed? If so what should I get upgraded?

Re: XFCE Proformance?

Looking forward to compare the latest XFCE CE with what I've been running on my old 1.6GHZ 512MB RAM P4 for the past few months. I also plan on experimenting with LXDE in combination with Mint XFCE. If the new mint can offer a bit more speed and close to the same features in terms of applications I'...

Re: fluxbox CE and idesk

Well after more searching I come to see all these hidden files are already set up for me, including Install.Ink. I tried to create an icon for firefox but it did not show up on the desktop. Should I expect that? I also tried making a copy of install.ink. Maybe this isn't working because I'm using th...

fluxbox CE and idesk

Fairly new to linux, tried many flavors for my laptop and settled on Mint 6 + Gnome. I have an older computer that computer-illiterate parents use for email and browsing. I currently have Xubuntu on it, thinking about Mint 6 XFCE but I am enjoying the speed of Fluxbox CE's livecd and think I'll have...

Re: Gnome-do: Is this a bug?

I am fairly new to linux and this synaptic package manager is still difficult for me to get around. I would really like to use the docky feature of gnome-do but apparently Mint 6 only comes with 0.6. From this thread it seems like those who even know how to upgrade cant get it to work, but for whene...
