Re: 17.1-17.3: Menu font messed up after some time

Unfortunately, I can’t follow-up on this anymore: I moved my Mint 17.3 (Cinn) installation to a new laptop (a Dell E6510) which also has a different graphics card (NVIDIA NVS3100 M) and meanwhile use kernel 4.4.0-42 and haven’t hat this problem since. On the old one, a Dell E6410 with built-in Intel...

Re: Verification of your TeamViewer version failed

I had the same problem using Linux Mint 18 (64-bit) and this sequence got my Teamviewer v11.0.57095 working again: 0. Download Teamviewer from https://www.teamviewer.com/en/download/linux/ -> Select Linux -> Select "Ubuntu/Debian v11.0.57095 (deb 32-Bit / 64-Bit Multiarch)". Don't open the file with...

Re: 17.1-17.3: Menu font messed up after some time

@cottfcfan: Thanks for your feedback. As far as I know I’ve never messed with themes and the like, the defaults are good enough for me. For stability reasons, I don’t really wish to mess with kernels right now. I’m currently on 3.19.0-58-generic but that didn’t help it. @All: Could it have something...

Re: 17.1-17.3: Menu font messed up after some time

Here we go again: I had effects switched off but switched them on again now. Fortunately I can now attach a screenshot, one from the settings manager, one from the file manager. You can see that this time apparently the letters »E« and »w« are corrupted. Interestingly, I have a lot of folders shown ...

Re: 17.1-17.3: Menu font messed up after some time

Hee, hee :-) And I had to retranslate into German, it’s called »Abblendeffekt an den Cinnamon-Rollleisten (wie bei der Anwendungsliste im Menü)« on a German-language system (phew, what a word monster!). My settings already were as shown by austin.texas . Thanks for your input, though. Any more ideas?

17.1-17.3: Menu font messed up after some time

Hello all, (relatively) newbie here, I installed LM 17.1 (Cinnamon) on my Dell Latitude E6410 laptop a while ago and sometimes the font that is shown in the application menus gets messed up, either totally, i.e. rendering only some dots and lines, or lately, only some characters. Yesterday for insta...

Re: Timezone selection leading to wrong installations

Hi v-ca, welcome to Linux Mint and the forums! I have Linux Mint 17.1 Cinnamon running on my laptop in both English and German languages, and currently live in Germany (momentarily at UTC+1). Selecting languages and timezones separately must always be seen separately (and not change stuff) because y...

Re: FireFox doesn't find local sites

I know it's an old thread, but just for completeness: If you switch off the web search in the address bar, the domain guessing »feature« will auto-enable. So if you type the name of a local machine (like studio1 in my case), Firefox might try to substitute www.studio1.com . Turning BOTH off (which I...

Re: No suspend on lid close

You don't—per chance—use an external monitor ? Apart from having a defective lid switch, this is the only other reason I can think of. Because LM is clever enough to continue running if you have an active external monitor. Thus, for instance, I can watch a video on "the big screen" in my living room...

Re: No suspend on lid close

Hm, odd … Does it work if you try

Code: Select all

sudo pm-suspend
from a command line?

If yes, I'm at my wit's end … maybe someone else has good advice?
Or try heading over to #linuxmint-help on IRC?

Info: Different languages for users (LM17/Cinnamon)

I ran into the situation that I needed to help someone, but my system language is German and usually we seem to agree upon stating all menu and application names in English. So I set up another user on my laptop who should have English as his language—so I wouldn't mess explanations up by translatin...

Re: No suspend on lid close

Maybe too much "newbie questions", but did you check: Menu → Preferences → Power Management → "When the lid is closed" → Suspend (for both "On A/C power" and "On battery power")? Your swap partition(s) being slightly larger than your actual RAM? Your lid switch isn't actually broken? (I've owned a f...

Re: [Solved] LM17+Cinn: Hibernate/Suspend broken after updat

Problem solved, I post it here so that others are informed. I got a little frustrated and prepared for a new install: Copying away around 650GB of data, doing a "bare-metal" Clonezilla backup … but before finally re-installing I tried one last thing, and guess what—it worked! I had this in /etc/fsta...

Re: LM17+Cinn: Hibernate/Suspend broken after update

Thanks for the input. Except from doing screenshots, would there be a way to list/copy the latest updates from update manager (i.e., a log file that could be opened with nano/gedit)? If it helps, just to exclude any hardware problems, I just put the LM17+Cinnamon 64-bit DVD in, booted from it and tr...
