Re: Can I install a fresh Mint 17.1 iso, already have 17.3, without messing up grub?

Thanks a lot. Now I can proceed and maybe get out of that rut and my steam account being basically a ghost account because openGL won't install while the rest of the driver does. Also I won't be using 15.302, I had installed 15.20.1046 etc. which worked just fine. Tomorrow though, this sinusitis is ...

Re: Sudden inexplicable crash...to me at least, happening for no reason, had to turn off PSU and wait 15 secs before..

Although my cooling system has recently been upgraded where nothing makes it go past 35c and so for just a few seconds for regular multi-tabbed, with a couple browsers running. I think it could be my power supply, that WD drive is an external drive, which according to diagnostic tests, is in great s...

Re: Can I install a fresh Mint 17.1 iso, already have 17.3, without messing up grub?

Hello? This should be a very simple question for the pros out here. I'm this sick of trying to get the amd prop driver to not mess up and not leave me without openGL that I'm willing to start over, I found this really neat backup program named Aptik and now I'm not so afraid of starting over. I just...

Can I install a fresh Mint 17.1 iso, already have 17.3, without messing up grub?

Especially since there was recent initramfs updates. If one looks at my latest posts on this forum, one can see I've been fighting to get the amd proprietary driver to work again after some updates which caused X-Server to crash (I forgot what updates exactly, it was level 4, but after research I re...

Re: Anybody was able to install successfully AMD drivers in 17.3? The driver I had installed for 17/.1/.2 stopped workin

Right, so. I've made, in all cases it fails, a usb key with mint 17.1 on it, got the iso from the official source, checked the safety of it all with gpg. It's fine. I got a question regarding trying to install an older Mint 17 version, it will not be on the same internal drive, but, it will likely ...

Re: Anybody was able to install successfully AMD drivers in 17.3? The driver I had installed for 17/.1/.2 stopped workin

I guess I found the answer to my troubles, although...the driver didn't notice until a while later I wasn't using 3.19.0-32..I'll install the very latest 3.19.x kernel because, Radeon Crimson 15.2 (15.32 driiver) SysReqs : System requirements XOrg 7.4 or above (up to 1.17) Linux kernel 2.6 or above ...

Re: Anybody was able to install successfully AMD drivers in 17.3? The driver I had installed for 17/.1/.2 stopped workin

You can try installing the same kernel version in 17.3 as you had in 17.1 Reboot and test. Or install kernel version 4.14.9, reboot and test I still have it, it was kernel 3.19.0-32, the one that's checked as Recommended in the Linux Kernels list of the Update Manager. The latest kernel that shows ...

Anybody was able to install successfully AMD drivers in 17.3? The driver I had installed for 17/.1/.2 stopped working

...properly one day. I had a X server refusing to start situation after some updates, and since then, when I install the AMD Radeon driver for my Radeon HD 7850, which I've had installing fine before. What happens now is strange, I get an error in the process, 93% in, a DKMS error happens and it sem...

Re: segmentation fault when starting almost all Qt apps, except for one I compiled myself, and random others such as kVI

Thanks a lot again, you're excellently helpful. I just wonder though...why wouldn't I have openGL installed and working? I notice that when I use xserver-xorg-video-ati, video is terrible and actually lags. In windows, I used the graphics card benchmarker 3DMark and it passed all tests easily, when ...

Re: segmentation fault when starting almost all Qt apps, except for one I compiled myself, and random others such as kVI

Thanks for your reply, the memory sticks are 4x4gb Corsair Vengeance 1866mhz, they work fine, although, I have to set the timings myself on this motherboard so that they are not regarded as 1333mhz. I use the timings that have a sticker on the them, and when I wanted 2 new sticks, when I only had 8g...

Re: segmentation fault when starting almost all Qt apps, except for one I compiled myself, and random others such as kVI

Thanks deepakdeshp, I was thinking of doing that. I'm alright with playing inside my main most powerful desktop as I know the ins and outs of the unfortunately, but since I installed a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO over the very stock and noisy and low quality (after 2 years 1/2 it was time to get som...

segmentation fault when starting almost all Qt apps, except for one I compiled myself, and random others such as kVIRC

Running 17.3, trusty 14.04, Mate. At first, I thought it was because my Mint partition was on my very old yet impossible to kill 200gb sata 1.5gb/sec very first gen of sata hard drive, WDC WD2000JD-22HBB0. Text over it is black, but I don't think that WD had decided to make multiple types of quality...

Re: All programs that use qt (except Avidemux-qt, which I built myself, even each .deb) give me a segfault

This guy had the same issue using Ubuntu for qt4 apps...I think that most apps should be qt5 right now, anyway when I look at my version of qt that's installed it's 5.x.y, everything used to be fine. https://askubuntu.com/questions/918095/qt4-applications-segfaulting-on-startup It's not even just qT...

Re: All programs that use qt (except Avidemux-qt, which I built myself, even each .deb) give me a segfault

Well, no sorry, now a qt based browser I used when a site had issues with some add-ons on either firefox or chrome which was not Opera, qupZilla, refuses to open for the same reason but is nice enough when opened in terminal to give me an error dump. So qt5 is broken on my Mint install, there's no d...

Re: All programs that use qt (except Avidemux-qt, which I built myself, even each .deb) give me a segfault

*bump* I did a memtest and my 2 sticks of 8gb Corsair 933mhz are just fine. I don't want to reinstall, that is not even an option to consider. I did make a complete partition save into an .img file using clonezilla with a system rescue boot, so I won't have to spend a week customizing everything the...

And i'm about to rip my hair of my cranium. I installed this gdb program which is supposed to help me.
