Re: So, this forced kernel update for Debian based distros such as Mint messed up my amd proprietary driver

Woah there, care to keep it friendly? By forced kernel update....have you looked at any Debian/Ubuntu kernel news lately? There was a massive security hole that was revealed, hence kernel families from 3.16 to 4.18 all had new kernels released and not only that, Debian waited 2 days before even talk...

Re: So, this forced kernel update for Debian based distros such as Mint messed up my amd proprietary driver

Should I boot in there to get some screengrabs / terminal code to simplify the situation for you all?

I wonder what would happen if I was to boot in the most recent 3.13 kernel I have under the previous versions grub menu.

So, this forced kernel update for Debian based distros such as Mint messed up my amd proprietary driver

So, I was using kernel 3.16.57 for a long time, I would have used a more recent kernel, but amd's proprietary driver 15.30.1025 always would come in the way when I would want to update kernel the legit way, through Update Manager. i was not aware of that huge security hole, "thankfully" 3.16 is stil...

Re: Strange happenings since a few days - getting logged out to a termi screen, things OK'd and back to login screen

Well the driver is kind of an issue, I can't upgrade kernel because of that AMD Proprietary Driver...I'm stuck with kernel 3.16.57, .58 came out today and I can't install it, or any more recent kernels, they all blame the video driver, after rebooting after the failed kernel update, I had to do sudo...

Re: Is it safe to update wine-stable, I never had to do it, what about the already installed windows programs

EAC logs are the only ones accepted, with checksums, to count as perfect rips. I hear XLD is which is a linux application is getting close to approval. It's all I can say, you don't talk about private trackers :) For my internet-only friends and contacts, I use XMPP on Pidgin or Linphone. But i'm th...

Re: Is it safe to update wine-stable, I never had to do it, what about the already installed windows programs

The places where people make people discover music only accept EAC ripping. XLD is getting close to that though. I know, it's frustrating, I liked RubyRipper, but then they only accept .log files made by EAC :( Oh well, EAC is still superior, it's so good it's amazing it remains free. CUETools is gr...

Re: Is it safe to update wine-stable, I never had to do it, what about the already installed windows programs

Yeah...anyway...Firejail has regressed in my opinion fromi it's earlier incarnations. Locking up the system so you have to either allow an application to run in the settings or have almost all applications not work at all, even something simple as Audacious will not open if not configured to be whit...

Re: Strange happenings since a few days - getting logged out to a termi screen, things OK'd and back to login screen

Hi, The driver isn't at issue, I've been using it since it came out, pretty much the last AMD Proprietary Driver for Linux, 15.30.1025.I play games in CrossOver and Steam without issue when I have the time. There's catalyst 15.32 but the deb created from the .run file I have not tried ever because i...

Nobody? It happened again once today. Am I even looking at the right syslog? I need to know what causes this, so much that I'm ready to pay for ESET Linux's malware/antivirus' software.

Strange happenings since a few days - getting logged out to a termi screen, things OK'd and back to login screen

Hello, For the last 3 days, my main desktop running 17.3 will out of the blue log me out to a black screen, then some loading stuff shows up, like if one presses escape during the LM logo boot up and after that X comes back and I am greeted by the login screen. I'm seriously concerned because it's n...

Re: Anybody was able to install successfully AMD drivers in 17.3? The driver I had installed for 17/.1/.2 stopped workin

I have...but you're better off following the procedure to create deb files from the .run driver file...that b*tch of a file, at least the 15.30 catalyst driver, it's the last one to work real well with 17.3 imo, the .run files will produce a DKMS error at 93% randomly. With the debs installed correc...

Re: Win XP as Virtual machine in Virtualbox

It's a question I've had myself. I only use VM's to hide my "computer name" with a winxp x64..well for a while, now I have one for win7 x64 ultimate, but it's not that often something I can otherwise run wiith CrossOver 17 in Mint itself and as I have tried, most small applications all work very wel...

Much appreciated.I always figured that playforlinux was something even better than CrossOver to play windows games on Linux. I'll look it up, I might have questions as I try that thing. So it's like a firejail for wine?

Is it safe to update wine-stable, I never had to do it, what about the already installed windows programs

So I got this update for wine-stable, and unfortunately the Linux world has nothing comparable to EAC and a few other tools I need, mostly in the audio dept. update package is 3.03~trusty, 3.02~trusty is the one I have now (yeah I'm running with Mint 17.3 until I have no choice but to upgrade, video...

Re: After some time, my graphics cards will not play x265 video on any player eexcept for sound

Yep, a reboot is necessary after mining monero for me, it will start with small glitches when starting a video to not being able to play x265 video until I reboot that machine and its 2 graphics cards. I guess it's a solved issue although it isn't really solved. Better than anything physical breakin...

ext4 partition setup with Disks not to mount automatically randomly mounts itself

My old ext4 partition for a previous linux installation which I haven't deleted because, well, anyone with a really fast internet collection find themselves having to do janitorial work on their computers, I know I do, 3 internal drives, 3 external drives, about 30 usb keys from 8 to 128gb.... After some time, my graphics cards will not play x265 video on any player eexcept for sound

It takes a long time, but sometimes the screen will have a kind of slight glitch that's hard to describe and then reading x265/HEVC videos on any player. a couple weeks ago I that same desktop with the same 2 cards connected with Crossfire and I had to be in win7 for a week and nope, everything's al...

It's all good. I wish I could do scripts like this. Only scripting I ever did was way back, modifying mIRC using its scripts heh.

I installed it, nothing went kaput so I guess this is it. Thanks all.

Re: Is this update really a downgrade? (Details in post)

Thanks for the heads up peeps, yeah, the date it was released, the higher it is the better, as in most recent. What I meant as in changelog, is that if one looks at the Update Manager if one click one time on one single update and goes to the bottom rectangle with the 2 tabs, clicking on the "Change...

Is this update really a downgrade? (Details in post) [SOLVED]

https://my.mixtape.moe/igbcii.png Old Version : 1:20180814.1-0ubuntu0.14.04.2 New Version : 1:20180911.1-0ubuntu0.14.04.1 So ,does this make sense? I see it is an update, but is it an upgrade or a downgrade, why would a 14,04.2 be replaced by one for 14.04.1. Changelog says nothing, of course as th...
