Re: Boot & theme issues with Cinnamon. Think I drove it nuts

Tony,

In response to your pm, I don't think I lost any customizations I made, but I'm not certain. This is a new install, and I only remember adding one applet. It is there now, but I could have added it back in the meantime.

Re: I broke Cinnamon

After searching a lot, I found http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 0&p=792139. They had the same symptoms. I tried a

Code: Select all

apt-get install --reinstall cinnamon
and that fixed it.

Re: I broke Cinnamon

Hello, dave843. ... As your inxi report does not really give a clear hint why Cinnamon does not load, definitely proceed as advised by monsta. Further potentially useful logfiles in addition to ~/.xession-errors: /var/log/syslog /var/log/Xorg.0.log /var/log/boot.log /var/log/mdm/:0.log In addition ...

Re: I broke Cinnamon

After a reboot, the GUI doesn't come up anymore. I get the login screen, and I can login, but the screen is completely black after I log in (except for the mouse cursor). Is the right mouse button working? If yes, you have a possibility to open a terminal and look at the logs (in particular, ~/.xse...

I'm new to upstart, but you could try doing a "grep java *" in /etc/init

I broke Cinnamon [Fixed]

So I had some hardware issues when I first installed LM, but I got those sorted out. It was running fine for a week or two. I was trying to get software installed, get everything configured, etc. I have all packages up to date, etc. After a reboot, the GUI doesn't come up anymore. I get the login sc...

Re: Need help with Rage XL

... the specs for his stated system show it includes a PCIe x16 slot. My question was only to confirm that, in case of typos, or in case he hadn't looked. The XL is indeed a PCI card. Remarkably enough, that PCI card would be in one of the PCI slots of that Shuttle, and not in its PCIe. I just look...

Re: Need help with Rage XL

So I guess my choices really are:
1) Go with either an old version of LM and/or an old version of xorg
2) Buy a new computer
3) Buy a new video card

I don't really care much for the first two options. Anyone have any good suggestions for a video card?

Need help with Rage XL

I am trying to install LM 17 Cinnamon 64 bit on a Shuttle SP35P2V2 small form factor pc from a couple of years ago, but the video card is giving me some trouble. When I run "inxi -SGx", it says: System: Host: athena Kernel: 3.13.0-24-generic x86_64 (64 bit, gcc: 4.8.2) Desktop: Gnome Distro: Linux M...

Re: X server fails to start for install

Hi, did you the nomodeset option at grub? Press E to (e)dit the boot, delete: splash quiet and add: nomodeset in it's place I just tried that, and the X server still crashes with the same error messages in the xorg log file. It behaves slightly different in that if I have that option set, I get a r...
