Re: [Solved by workaround] Problems with External monitors on Lenovo notebook with dockingstation
Update After some testing, it looks like anything that causes the monitors to power off (physically powering them off or software) recreates the issue. So disabling the 'Turn off the screen' option in Power Management prevents the issue entirely. Unfortunately this does mean the monitors stay on all...

Re: [Solved by workaround] Problems with External monitors on Lenovo notebook with dockingstation
Sorry to bump an older topic but I've been battling this same issue. Wrote a short script similar to the OP's that copies a good, known-working monitors.xml file on startup to prevent my screens from being messed up. The issue is that the system will randomly and periodically stop displaying and go ...

Re: PXE booting directly from ISO
Thanks for the link. Sadly that method still requires the extraction of the ISO contents to a folder for each individual ISO. I'm trying to find a way to not have to extract the ISO files.

PXE booting directly from ISO
So I've been racking my brain on this one for sometime. There are lots of articles out there about PXE/TFTP/NFS. They walk you through extracting the contents of the iso into a directory where tftp can server out the kernel, squashfs, and initrd and all works well. However, what I'm hoping to do is ...

Re: LibreOffice 4.4.4 or other options?
Hi hrturner, You can get the newer version right now using the PPA method to install it, or by downloading the easy ".deb" installer file in either Linux x86 (deb) 32 bit, or Linux x64 (deb) 64 bit which depends on your computer's CPU processor; with the ".deb" file, you just double click the file ...

Re: kodi cant install other addons help
Fusion is a great addon to kodi. There are lots of great projects available through the fusion repo. Once you have fusion installed, if you go into the fusion repo through the file manager in kodi, you'll see several folders with installable plugins. My favorite is 1channel.

LibreOffice 4.4.4 or other options?
Sat down to use Impress the today to make a slide-show and was presented with this rather odd/nasty issue. The background behind any text is always white no matter what is done to correct the problem (default formatting, new slideshow, paste unformatted text, etc). Did some digging around the bug tr...

Re: Boot up hangs at Mint logo
ACPI is used for power handling. I'm by no means an engineer so I dont know what low level functionality it actually deals with but could lead to explain why your screen diming functionality is gone. Have you tried this parameter? acpi_osi=Linux Put this in place of where you put NO_ACPI . Also have...

Re: Computer won't boot after running Bleachbit
Best way to learn is through breaking stuff! Bleachbit is a great app just be careful, like xenopeek said. There was a thread not too long ago where people posted up their bleachbit settings to safely clean without removing important stuff. ****EDIT***** Here is the thread if you are interested: htt...

Re: How do I move the panel to my primary display on Cinnamo
Not sure if this is what you are looking for but if you go into System Settings -> Display -> and then click the display you want to be the "primary" then click the button that says "Set as Primary". Just tested it here and it moves the cinnamon bar to the other monitor.

You could always try the cli update method?
Not that it helps much but I can confirm BF2 runs on Mint 17 64bit.
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

Re: live DVD freezes half way thru booting up
Trying another distribution is a useful test if your DVD install doesn't work first time. Something that fits on a CD is helpful, in case the DVD part of the drive is aging, and something small, in case the RAM is less-than-perfect. Puppy Linux Precise works for me, reboot and it vanishes. The RAM ...

Have you tried booting into text mode? Also when it gets to the LM screen can you hit "ctrl" + "alt" + "f2" (or any of the F keys) to get to a text based login?

Bleachbit settings depend upon whats configured on your system.
Mine is setup to clear Firefox, filezilla, bash, flash, kde, and libreoffice completely. I have a couple of things like cache, clipboard, recent documents, trash and temp files set to be cleared as well.

Re: Can't use Mint Cinnamon anymore
Hey Pyro2577 Dont give up on Mint! Had similar issues with the kernel updates with Nvidia and found out after some research that this was an issue with Nvidia and headers (IIRC). So I reverted back to 3.13 kernel which so far has worked fine with Nvidia. I'm always a fan of updating when I can but f...

Re: Clonezilla fails: Unknown partition table format for fil
I've never run clonzilla from the disk that I'm trying to clone (not even sure if it can do that). Have you tried burning a live clonezilla cd and just copying the partition that way? Always booted to a live version of CZ and then pulled or pushed the image that way. The other thing you could probab...

Re: USB hard drive not seen (edit: how to use dd)?
With the pv utility you can set it up to give you a status indicator when you use DD. You may have to apt-get it though. As for the bs=1M that tells DD to use block sizes of 1megabyte. This just changes how many blocks DD reads/writes at one time. DD is dangerous because an errant device name can be...

Re: Boot up hangs at Mint logo
Can you switch terminals by hitting "Ctrl" + "alt" + any of the "F" keys (F1, F2, F3, etc)? This could allow you to log in to a text terminal at which point we could potentially do some more troubleshooting. The other option is when you see the grub screen, press "e". This will allow you to modify k...
