Thank you for all your help! I will proceded with the clean install of Mint 21.2 Cinnamon after a good backup. I think we can say the problem lies with the Window Manager in Mate versus the other distributions. we can now close this thread.

Thanks for your response. The small box at the bottom right of the jpg is the setup menu of the ZR24W. It does not come fron Mint. I'll try to open a terminal from the keyboard (ctrl-alt-t). I'll post the results.
