There are a few more packages you need to install to get switchable graphics working. fglrx-pxpress and fglrx-cccle are needed.

Re: Help optimize fps Diablo 3

You'd need to post more information about your setup. What is your computer hardware like? What GPU does your computer have? Have you enabled the proprietary drivers for your GPU, if applicable? Does your laptop have switchable graphics? If so, have you confirmed that it is running the game with the...

Re: Installing XFCE without re-install?

Great, glad it worked for you. I do just want to add, be careful with the --force-overwrite option. Obviously in this case it was safe because it's just an identifying text file that doesn't seem to have an impact on the operation of the system, but you could potentially overwrite an important file ...

Re: XFCE: Removeable media not opening in default file manag

I haven't tried using a different file manager in Xfce, but I imagine it is because Thunar is still handling your volume management. In Thunar, if you go to Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced, you should see a Volume Management checkbox. Try unchecking that, then finding a similar setting in Dolphin an...

Re: Installing XFCE without re-install?

I figured it out and tested it in a VBox install so it should work for you. If you run... sudo aptitude -o Dpkg::Options::="--force-overwrite" install mint-info-xfce It will force dpkg to overwrite the /etc/linuxmint/info file. That said, i really have no idea where this information is even used. H...

Re: Is Avast still available for free in Linux Mint?

If I don't see it, i don't believe it. I haven't seen any case since I've been using Linux since 2006. It would be wide spread knowledge in the OpenSource/Linux Community, especially since Wall St. operates on Linux servers. Most of the discussions about Viruses and Linux are FUD or the equivalent ...

Re: Installing XFCE without re-install?

Aptitude is another apt frontend just like Synaptic and apt-get. It is the recommended package management tool for Debian and is preinstalled in Linux Mint as well.

Re: media drive for windows system

Windows 7 can only boot off of a GPT drive if your system uses UEFI. But it should be able to access the files on a GPT drive just fine.

Re: Is Avast still available for free in Linux Mint?

Can anyone point me to any documented instances where Linux "passes" a virus on to Windows? I haven't seen any. -Hinto I haven't seen any documented but it doesn't seem outside the realm of possibility. You could do it pretty easily intentionally. Download a file known to be infected with a Windows...

Re: Installing XFCE without re-install?

One related question: I have been cleaning-up, getting rid of mate today after installing the xfce desktop, and looking at any xfce packages that might be useful. It seems that I should have this: mint-info-xfce (description: Base package. This package is needed by the Mint tools and the system to ...

Yeah, place windows, sorry. Glad it seems to be working. Some settings will take effect immediately with CCSM but others require you to log out.

Re: Compiz-Lost Desktop Settings

Cool raptir, thanks. I have laptop set to suspend, but the author's idea is that it will sometimes revert on it's own, or when some system changes are done and one forgets to check it. Mine seems to stay in Suspend so good for now. I WILL re-install as I am having some other issues too. I checked C...

Re: Compiz-Lost Desktop Settings

raptir, the compiz --replace did not work, the Terminal jammed up, again, me thinks the OS is damaged. I'm planning on re-installing tonight or tomorrow. I had some other issues also as you might have seen in my posts - so I think this will clear it all up. I was testing out some things that appare...

Re: Compiz-Lost Desktop Settings

If you think you have Compiz setup properly, you can switch to it by opening the run dialog (alt-f2 by default) and running: compiz --replace This will only take effect until you reboot, so it is a good way to check if your compiz is well configured before committing to it. To get the desktop settin...

Re: Best flavor of 17 for old netbooks?

Having used Linux Mint Cinnamon on that same laptop... I'm not sure where the people saying "it runs" are coming from. Yes, it will boot up without killing your machine, but it's unusably slow. Xfce would be my choice, but MATE will run fine as well. I've read that 17.1 XFCE version runs the compiz ...

Re: Compiz vs Marco on MATE

I've been using Compiz since it first arrived on the scene years ago and I never have trouble with it. My experience with Mate on Mint 17.1 is no different. The key to trouble free Compiz is having well supported hardware, the correct driver and a well configured compiz backend file. Well, how do y...

I've had some success using diskpart from the command prompt when the Disk Management utility won't work.
