Re: Icon issue with FreeOffice by SoftMaker

Hi again M_Mynaardt ,, I take the point about MS stuff. I like LO a great deal and used to wack out some very good (in my opinion) newsletters etc. however it does have problems with some MS formats as you say. I tend ask people to send stuff as PDF as it seems to be a freely available option for ju...

Re: Icon issue with FreeOffice by SoftMaker

Out of interest (passing) why do you have FreeOffice and Abiword and LibreOffice? And I've had a look at FreeOffice quite neat but a year 'out-of-date' and I found that I could not get a decent font on the toolbars etc. Have you cracked that? And No issues at ll here with icons changing but I noted ...

Re: Package Manager 'locked'. (SOLVED)

I originally used the defualt VB from the standard repos but as it was an old version I upgraded to the then latest via PPA costamagnagianfranco-virtualbox-ppa (launchpad.net) which has been in place ever since. I have now removed that and downgraded my 'foreign' packages to the 'old' 5.04. It is al...

Re: 'Update' is 'locked'.

pbear I am glad that you have not had this problem because it is a pain. Anyway just to clarify: no commands either via terminal or Synaptic or Update Manager work. 'Purge' 'Downgrade Foreign Packages' etc all result in the same error. I think I will have to find the file/package on the system and ...

Package Manager 'locked'. (SOLVED)

Hello, EDIT 20/10 Since starting this thread I have looked at/tried various options using 'dpkg' with no success probably because I have got the syntax wrong. This image http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/640x480q90/923/7UWp09.png will help - I hope! My Update Manager has four items to install one of ...

Re: Adwaita 'missing'

Flemur Yo thanks. I had already tried the re-install but did it again however still get the same result. Not a major issue this just very slightly irritating especially as I cannot delete the individual themes via the 'Change Background' window. Those ? staring at me everytime I go into that partic...

Adwaita 'missing'

Hi, I have been tidying up my themes (clearing out and such) so that I have only the few that I want. Two that I would like to use both have the sinister black ? on them and when one is selected I get: 'This theme will not look as intended because the required window manager theme 'Adwaita' is not i...

Re: The direction I dream for Linux

Have to say that I agree that there are too many Linux distro's. There is only so much you can achieve with cinnamon, kde, mate and so on whatever distro you are using. I try different distro's out of interest but essentially there is not much difference and the packages available are generally avai...

Claws-Mail 3.15.0 <solved>

No problem here just a query:

Why does the 'ubuntuhandbook1/claws-mail ppa not have version 3.15.0 of claws-mail in it?
All it has are a couple of 'sub' packages for 3.14.

Seems a bit odd as 3.15 has been out since March.

You can tell I have nothing else to do . . .

Thanks.

Re: Error mesage "Couldn't initialize plugin places"

Hi, Yes Trash owned by root! I changed that and then deleted all the files within using the previously noted 'rm' method as all the files are recovered items which all belonged to root. Checked status of Trash after the delete and still safely owned by geopol. No idea why this occurred. Many thanks ...

Re: NEON (kde)

thom_A I have stopped trying out other distros. Most of them are in experimental stages. I must admit to having done the same, having tried out loads of different, apparently stable, distros. over time. Been quite disappointed by the usability of many and I finally settled with Kubuntu for a number...

NEON (kde)

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone has tried Neon the kde environment direct from the kde team? I have installed it as my live backup on my secondary drive (if that makes sense) while keeping Mint Mate as my main OS on the primary disk. I have suffered odd troubles using Digikam (the best photo orga...

Re: Safe to uninstall Compiz in Linux Mint 17.3 MATE?

I support the general feeling - Compiz - not reliable and should be an optional install. It is this sort of (unwanted) inclusion that leads to bloat!

Re: Anyway to adjust how responsive caja is?

You mention hardware - perhaps you could post your system specs.? Although I would have no idea some of the experts on this forum might be able to point the finger if it is an hardware problem.

You could look at viewtopic.php?f=206&t=224699 too.

All the best.
