Re: Error mesage "Couldn't initialize plugin places"

Hi, Yes Trash owned by root! I changed that and then deleted all the files within using the previously noted 'rm' method as all the files are recovered items which all belonged to root. Checked status of Trash after the delete and still safely owned by geopol. No idea why this occurred. Many thanks ...

Error mesage "Couldn't initialize plugin places" SOLVED

I get the following text in a window on my desktop after boot - any ideas as to what it means and what I should do about it? Couldn't initialize plugin places : Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/lib/linuxmint/mintMenu/mintMenu.py", line 308, in PopulatePlugins MyPlugin.do_plugi...

Re: NEON (kde)

thom_A I have stopped trying out other distros. Most of them are in experimental stages. I must admit to having done the same, having tried out loads of different, apparently stable, distros. over time. Been quite disappointed by the usability of many and I finally settled with Kubuntu for a number...

NEON (kde)

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone has tried Neon the kde environment direct from the kde team? I have installed it as my live backup on my secondary drive (if that makes sense) while keeping Mint Mate as my main OS on the primary disk. I have suffered odd troubles using Digikam (the best photo orga...

Re: Safe to uninstall Compiz in Linux Mint 17.3 MATE?

I support the general feeling - Compiz - not reliable and should be an optional install. It is this sort of (unwanted) inclusion that leads to bloat!

Re: Anyway to adjust how responsive caja is?

You mention hardware - perhaps you could post your system specs.? Although I would have no idea some of the experts on this forum might be able to point the finger if it is an hardware problem.

You could look at viewtopic.php?f=206&t=224699 too.

All the best.

Re: Anyway to adjust how responsive caja is?

Just in passing:

I would not ditch Caja for another manager. In my experience it can lead to problems with items not displaying properly if at all. :(

Re: How do I change Mate desktop font color?

There are some 'text' colour options under 'Appearance Preferences' 'Theme' 'Colours' and happily there is a 'Reset to default' button. Must admit to never having seen shadow on a desktop font. Is it the font itself?

Re: Permissions issue '644' (SOLVED)

Do you (plural) probably run graphical programs via sudo-command? No, as I said most stuff is accessed by GUI and so command-line interventions are rare. I do actually think it is due to the restoring of files and folders leading to permissions getting screwed up somehow by not using the proper rou...

"Cosmo."]Oh oh - but not a real surprise. It appears, that you (both?) are playing much with sudo, don't you?

Don't really do much command line stuff so 'sudo' not played with. Just about everything is via GUI's.

Permissions issue '644' (SOLVED)

This prevents the default session and language from being saved. File should be owned by user and have 644 permissions. Users /Home directory must be owne...
