Home Intranet

I was thinking about running a linux Mint pc that could run something like plex or an Apache php website that is NOT connected to the internet. Something where from home devices and PC family can un-select our internet provider wifi (comcast or WOW) and select a router (athome) which will have all o...

Re: HP ENVY 4th gen, 15t i7-4710HQ quad core with linux mint

Hey Manger, why not just get another hard drive. 500g's these days for laptops are really cheap! I have to see if it has a second HDD slot, if not it would be kind of silly to disable the puter to install a linux OS hdd each time I want during the day. If it only has one HDD, then I will have to du...

Re: HP ENVY 4th gen, 15t i7-4710HQ quad core with linux mint

I kind of figured that, 1. I always read Intel did better with graphics then trying to find a nivdi driver or AMD chip set and stuff. not knocking them, just that intel is easy for mint to sync to or like identifying them for easy config. kind of like get a dell Intel and they go easy with mint *cou...

HP ENVY 4th gen, 15t i7-4710HQ quad core with linux mint OS

Ok I could not refuse getting a $870 dollar reduced by $150, only for $599 at another store. It took me a good three weeks seeing that some people are using Ubuntu or mint with some slight issues. Also in mint hardware config poor, good, or slight issues did not really put a finger what I will be up...

Re: Wine setup on linux mint

I guess my question isn't about how to install wine. I guess I just would like to know what the mint team does to get the fonts rendering correctly in wine so they look smooth? There a few things... 1. Use the "software manager" to install "wine" its the easy auto install way. 2. also look at softw...

Re: Netflix for ubuntu?

Thank you, PatH57! I will give that a try, well as of today, Chromium Chrome Firefox and Oprah all failed. Netflix said it had to be a later browser to play. I know there has been a lag but think that gap will be filled so or a later. :) I still have my iPhone for the road trip, just thought it be c...

Re: slow cd or dvd typical?

slow cd or dvd typical?

just wondering each time I put a DVD or CD into the drive it takes about 45 - 60 secs for the desktop to say that it sees the disk?

Cinnamon 17, just the common stuff up to date after an install.

Any software or program others using to speed that up?

Xampp technical install custom link or start up?

For those that finish installing xampp and were able to set everything up. I shut down and restarted my PC figured I would have had a short cut back to the interface. so when you get back on the PC the only way to Start apache2 or xampp is terminal; cd /opt/lampp then sudo ./manager-linux.run Is the...

I had linuxmint.com , a few videos for istall to LM 16, even Ubuntu. http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/1016 mainly 10% how to start the download. http://www.ihaveapc.com/201...

.... She brought it over and her IE had been hijacked--about a 2 minute job. Yeah love those "let us run some diagnostics" my neighbor went home and had extra software added with open doors so they could get in at any time to monitor and repair stuff, even by passing the request permission popup. Re: Computer repair shop won't fix mine because I use Linux

Another die hard! good for you and that sweet truck. I had a keyboard and screen go out on my dell 5150. I picked up a nice USB wireless keybaord + mouse and use it as a media center on my flat screen. Its nice to sit back 15' away and surf the web, watch Netflix and other things like music too :) Y...

Re: scan files and libre, microsoft office

Just a thought, my two cents, from what I grasp he has a windows HDD in one laptop and will move it to an external drive. and all that swapping stuff around. 1. If I had an extra HDD even a cheap unused 20 GB thrown it in a desk top as the primary HDD, load a LM OS on it with AVG, or even another an...

Thanks I just wanted to make sure that is was supposed to open up a url and start working. I will try uninstalling it and do it again or use a different install than software manager if it fails again. :| I will follow up on this. Rename hidden .bluefish folder and start Bluefish again. Re: First things first on install help window

I have noticed there is one way to update the OS and three ways to install packages on LM OS, forgive me of any ignorance. 1. Update OS ALWAYS via terminal as many previous step by step or videos. (done!) Software install can be accomplish by three methods 1. Terminal screen like in many older versi...
