Dell inspiron B130 trying an Orinoco wi-fi card

I'm running 32b Sylvia on this old dell Inspiron B130, w/2GB and it's going well but I'm trying to get wireless going on the cheap. Have an old wi-fi usb that looks challenging re: firmware. Thought I'd investigate using this Orinoco gold pcmcia card I had. I've read through some of the 65 search 'h...

Wi-Fi driver not found

Sorry to ask such a noob Q folks but I've surfed around, tried a few commands and looked at tutorials and still can't figure out what to do to get Broadcom BCM4401-B0 driver for an old dell Inspiron B130. Ran inxi -Fz to get list, sudo apt-get update, then sudo apt-get install firmware-b44-installer...

[SOLVED] How well Tessa run on old Inspiron B130?

Anyone tell me how well 19 would run on an old Dell Inspiron B130? It has a Pentium M, and I believe I could add up to 2GB of DDR. Has 1GB right now. If that would run slow what older version would run well? Using Cinnamon. I would mostly use to read, online or off, email, watch videos. Thank you, Mac

Hello again

Hello Everyone, Been here before but planning on sticking to it this time :? I'm in sunny Florida, deciding whether to stay put or not. Installed Sylvia (32b, Cinnamon) on an old laptop and planning on installing 64b on my pc. I use multiple OS's on separate hard drives I insert in a tray. Anyway, l...

Desktop icons won't open

Dislike being a noob here but I've searched and read.... Installed 18.3 (32b) on an old dell Latitude D510 (w/2GB ram, a 40GB drive) but I can't get computer icon or folder icon to open. Do I need to config some user security first? Not sure what to do. Appreciate any help. Going to use the laptop t...

Re: Sell me on Linux please!

As a reply to your title let me say that I've read over the years that as soon as MS has a new OS to sell they push out updates that slow your system, inducing people to upgrade, and I believe it. This company is shady. Another reason is that now everyone is going to a rolling updates/yearly fee mod...

Reset password solutions don't work, LM17

Numerous posts explain edit the 'quiet splash' line after boot to GRUB such that it reads ro quiet splash rw init=/bin/bash, reboot and you are logged into root w/o a password, then how to create a new password. After edit & reboot using F10, I receive error, bash: cannot set terminal process group ...
