Re: <SOLVED> Nobody's avatars are showing

Wasn't it great, no avatars, especially the animated ones? I liked some people's animated avatars so well, I put them on the 'foes' list so I didn't have see their posts. So, I decided to remove mine.

Re: TOO much complicated (passwd )...

Thanks... that's all I need... another account with another password. Just tried to copy my ridiculously long and complicated forum password from Firefox in Linux and paste it to Firefox in Windows. It was rejected. Then tried to manually copy it, but blindly as there is no display options to 'show ...

I just did an image search (Bing) for "dark teal." Downloaded the image, select the file, right clicked on it and clicked 'set as wallpaper.' Worked for me.

No worries. The little box is the desktop search feature*. If you know the name of a program or folder on the desktop you can launch it using the little box. This happens when the focus is on the desktop not where you think it is.

Re: How much graphics memory is needed to run Cinnamon well?

Although it wasn't recommended, I am started running 17.1 Cinnamon with Intel Graphics 3000 64 MB dedicated; 1317 total available graphics memory. If I remember correctly 125 MB dedicated was required then, but I installed anyway. Am now running 18.x Cinnamon with the same graphics, but wouldn't rec...

Re: settings for pop in thunderbird for gmx

There is a setting (Pop3 & IMAP) in GMX mail that needs to be checked to allow use of an email program to retrieve mail and links there that show how to set up various email programs. I'm using IMAP; imap.gmx.com port 993 SSL/TLS Normal Password Outgoing (SMTP); mail.gmx.com port 465 SSL/TLS Normal ...

Re: T-O-R Browser for Linux Mint

I installed it with the package manager, and had everything going though TOR. Browsing is slower. Many sites require CAPCHAs and / or two step verification or just come up with an error page. Don't know about installing using the software manager. I also recommend downloading from the TOR website, n...

Re: unattended-upgrades -- Issues

Got it here, too... Unattended-Upgrades... LM 18 Cinnamon, and running once a day. This is one of the reasons I have been attempting to leave Windows. All the sneaky stuff in the background. Guess I could // out the two active lines, until find out if it safe to delete it, the program not the config...

Re: Turn Off Screensaver

Type "screensaver" in the MENU and click on that. When that window comes up, click the "Settings" tab. "Lock the computer when inactive" is the setting that brings up the screen saver. "Delay before locking the screen" is the delay before signing in is required. You might also check into the Power M...

In the Power Management console there is the option to change what the power button does. It can be accessed through the menu by typing power or by clicking the battery icon in the panel and choosing Power Settings.

Try right clicking the folder, select Properties, then click the current image in that box. Select another image. Seems to work here. But I'm using Cinnamon 18 so this might not apply.

Re: My review of Mint 18

I have used Linux Mint Cinnamon 18 since it was officially released and have had only one freeze that lasted a few seconds. The good? The brightness controls work, out of box, before splash screen or it dims to an acceptable level three-fourths of the way through the splash screen. I customized the...

Re: Font Viewer doesn't launch from Menu.

Big bucket %U holds more than little bucket %u. Got it, thanks. As for, "and place a hash (#) in front of the line "DBusActivatable=true", tried it with # and also changing it to false without hash. Same result, wheel spins for a while, and nothing appears. Can't win them all. New Logon: Log in as a...

[Solved] Font Viewer doesn't launch from Menu.

I am running Linux Mint Cinnamon 18 all updates applied. The title says it all. I created a new Menu item, with the command gnome-font-viewer without the %u and it launched and appears to work. If I launch from the terminal with gnome-font-viewer %u or gnome-font-viewer %U, I get this error; This fo...

And then edited the Firefox about:config. Conclusion: This is the first time since 17,x, that I have not seen so...

Re: Missing Hibernate option on LM 18-Sarah

Linux Mint Cinnamon 18 got installed without a swap partition on my laptop, so the hibernate option does not exist for me either. Previous installs created it automatically, or there were options for it during install.
