Re: Available kernel update doesn't install with aptitude

I use sudo apt-get upgrade normally was using the GUI updates for LTS Kernel 4.15.x and LTS 4.19.x. mostly worked so I'm surprised at your experience using CLI. But now on 5.1.x on non work computers using ukuu script which has been great but I have seen absolutely zero advantage of latest stable vs...

Re: New Cinnamon install not dual booting

You don't install Grub n such post LM install. Not sure where you got that. You shrink your windows partition first within windows and leave space for LM. How much to give is up to you but I like 100Gb or more. Then you boot your LM live USB and choose install. You choose 'other' and install along s...

Re: Firefox emergency security patch 67.0.3 / 67.0.4

Here is something to feed people's panic. Security bugs are detected and patched by Mozilla faster these last few days than the repository maintainers of Ubuntu and Linux Mint can deploy the most recent security patches to their users: Only today Mozilla has released: + Firefox 67.0.4 (re...

Re: How do I check why an app makes my OS freeze?

You don't ever need to install anything to use VPN on LM. What .Deb? I'd get rid of it in a hurry. Unless you are handy with linux, don't install anything thats not available via the software manager. BTW, Astrill has a horrible reputation. Not secure at all. The very idea that they want you to inst...

Re: Can't do apt upgrade

Ya, you need to post more detail on the error and the exact code you ran. Did you just try to run sudo apt upgrade or sudo apt-get upgrade? Make sure you first run sudo apt-get update first then sudo apt-get upgrade If you are up to date then nothing to upgrade. BTW, sorry to digress but premier69@p...

Re: Firefox emergency security patch 67.0.3

Hi, folks. Even without resorting to the Ubuntu Mozilla Security PPA: Ubuntu is deploying Firefox 67.0.3 to its users through the regular software repositories. Linux Mint is still deplyong Firefox 67.0.2. $ apt-cache policy firefox firefox: Installed: 67.0.3+build1-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 Candidate: 67.0...

Firefox emergency security patch 67.0.3 / 67.0.4 [solved]

Lots of articles now on a firefox 67.0 security vulnerability and Mozilla also saying to patch immediately due to risk to 67.0.3 but is not available via LM update manager yet. One alternative is to add the mozilla security PPA and install from there. What do y'all think? I assume by tonight it will...

Which version of linux mint are you running? More specifically, which desktop? Cinnamon, Xfce, MATE? You sholudn't have to download anything. Now days bluetooth support comes with your particular LM desktop. Same for Ubuntu. In fact, if you try to use the wrong bluetooth support for your desktop (bl...

in the next version of win-10, there will supposedly be more control over those updates. it also depends on whether you are running Home or Pro - on those machines. - you can get some type of control by using either: - - Group Policy - the Registry https://www.windowscentral.com/how-stop-...

Sh Ge, That screen shot shows you have two additional 'drives' mounted but is not at all as informative as using the commands in a terminal window I posted above. Are you saying that you cannot write to those two additional drives? If so, please post the output of those two commands above. If not......

Re: I don't understand: what is a VPN? Do I need it? Will it work on Mint?

Thank you!! It is a laptop. I have done banking on free wifi, but not for ages. Yes, I use the free wifi when I stay in hotels. It's free and often there is no other network available. I'd like to be able to use the laptop for work, but would not do that often. I do need to use it for online bankin...

I used to swear by HP, but that changed to swear AT HP, mostly because of the cost of maintaining ink supplies, especially when not using a printer too often. I bet you used inkjets before. When you don't print often, that's not the best choice. You win the bet :D I've mostly given up for home prin...

Other than games (and two bits of propitiatory software the family uses) probably 80% of my PC time is now on Mint and i could not be happier that it was actually Microsoft being jerks (Windows 8 and 10) that pushed me to discover such a great Linux. I hope you try it out and find yourself four yea...

Re: new to AMD and linux, need help! hardware drivers wont install!!

So exactly what isn't working?? You don't need proprietary drivers. AMD-GPU in the kernel is actually faster for gaming etc for most. Also, any time you post this sort of question you need to let all know more about exactly what your computer hardware is and what your OS is (LM17.3, LM18.x, LM19.1) ...
