Re: Bass/treble balance.

Hi there, me again. The "sound settings" in the volume control applet or via 'menu>preferences>sound" has rudimentary equalizer functions. IF your soundcard has individual speaker outputs you can use those equalizer functions. Doesn't look like it based on your previous post. Two opti...

Re: Headphones work, speakers don't, with Mint.

Thank you for the information. It appears that there are some known issues (quirks)with how sound is handled on similar machines, the new HP pavilion all in one, particularly with HD-Audio Generic, ALC225 Analogue in analogue mode where Duplex mode works better. Getting beyond myself here but has to...

opinion on "hw-probe and website "linux-hardware.org"?

Hello, In trying to diagnose a sound problem for someone else, I came across what seems to me to be to be a cool tool to show and analyse a computer's hardware. Before suggesting it, I'd like opinions. I found it useful for myself. One can install the tool "hw-probe" via sudo apt-get insta...

Re: Headphones work, speakers don't, with Mint.

@jlc I probably should have asked you to also type aplay -L which should give a little more info. Your motherboard HP 85BAis pretty new. Don't do it yet but you might want the 5.8.0. kernel. The output didn't list enough detail about your sound card so I don't know the exact item and topology. How a...

Re: authorisation lost?

You should reboot and answer the questions posed by jjp2145-oldtimer. Also please let us know which desktop environment you are using aka cinnamon, MATE, etc. When I go to settings to check authorisations I am unable to open anything under administration. Very confusing statement. Which 'settings'? ...

Re: Recommendations for resources to understand linux

Hello, Here's something for windows users trying to understand Linux. Its on the Manjaro linux forum but quite applicable here. https://forum.manjaro.org/t/howto-become-a-manjaro-power-user-when-youre-a-wizard-at-windows-but-a-n00b-at-manjaro-linux/13646 One thing to remember is that in Linux, every...

Re: Random Freezing Problem

Is there any common theme to the crashes? Are you streaming video/sound when it happens or does this occur after idling for a while?

Re: Headphones work, speakers don't, with Mint.

What hardware do you have and which desktop are you using? Please with such questions provide the output of inxi -Fzx as typed. Also in your case aplay --list-devices Have you tried the sound control GUI tools that come with your desktop? In cinnamon, there is a default GUI control that has an icon ...

Re: LM20.1 pulseaudio keeps crashing

Hello, I applied the fixes above and gave it time. Pulseaudio still keeps crashing where I have to start up a terminal and restart $pulseaudio -k. I also have had to do this when I get bad hissing while streaming. I believe pulseaudio is also behind some system freezes where I loose mouse and someti...

Re: LM20.1 pulseaudio keeps crashing

Thanks MrEen. Looks reasonable. I'll give it a try. I suppose the only downside would be having too many instances up. I'll keep an eye on processes up.

Re: Pulseaudio crashes on resume (Linux Mint 20 Cinnamon beta)

Its happening in the final version and LM20.1. I have to reset the daemon with "pulseaudio -k" which kills and then allows auto-spawn. At least there is a way out but dang irritating. Audio: Device-1: AMD FCH Azalia vendor: ASUSTeK driver: snd_hda_intel v: kernel bus ID: 00:14.2 Device-2: ...

Re: Reclaiming disk space from Flatpack applications?

No, Flatpak applications are all in one packages, they include their dependencies within themselves. That's why they take up so much space. You can remove them without any problems affecting other stuff. Personally I do not use any Flatpak at all. Which is what makes flatpk's great in the first pla...

Re: Master Boot Record gone?

The EFI partition is where the bootloader is when you boot EFI mode. Looks like you lost grub anyway. I don't know anything about 'boot camp', I doubt it plays well with linux muiti-boot systems. Since I'm more linux centric Id suggest trying to repair grub and using that to control OS bootup choice...

Hypnotix rational

Not meant as criticism but I am curious about the rational for going ahead with a whole brand new IPTV app for LM? Why was it seen as important enough to push as part of the LM20.1 upgrade? Why not just fork Kodi, Tuxtv, IPTVx, Miro etc instead of doing what looks like a completely new build and the...

Re: Some of you use Snapd?

I use Flatpack for some programs or versions that work better or don't exist in LM repo's and have experienced no negative issues. I haven't used Snaps. For those who have used both, how do you compare?
