Re: How to disable screen locking on lid closed in Cinnamon in Linux Mint 19

Thanks for this post, everyone. I've been having trouble with my system freezing and suspect it has something to do with the lock screen. I don't know if the freezing issue is fixed, but I was trying to disable the lock screen everywhere so I was going crazy when I couldn't disable lock after lid cl...

Lost Grub after install

Hi folks, I run Mint as my main distro but I keep a couple partitions open to install and play with other distros. I just installed MX Linux and had the install program update grub. This was a mistake, as now I can't boot off of my hard drive; BIOS seems to try the HDD but skips it and then tries th...

Re: Brightness not working

Well it doesn't seem to be a kernel issue. On a separate partition, I preserved my old Mint 18 (upgraded to 18.1) running on kernel 4.6.5 with both the grub acpi_backlight=vendor hack and the 20-intel.conf X11 file. Brightness was working fine when I booted back into that partition. This was a fresh...

Re: Brightness not working

I tried that "easy method", and it has worked for me on the same machine with previous versions of Mint and Ubuntu, but not this time it seems. I have an Intel GMA HD 3000 integrated processor circa 2011, so I'm wondering if the kernel is breaking support for an aging system like mine. I'll downgrad...

Re: Installing in a multi-boot environment?

You're correct. Boot off of the Linux disc. After it boots to a desktop, you should have an icon "Install Linux Mint". Once you open that, you should see the option to install alongside Windows.

Re: Brightness not working

Thanks Faust.

I've been using xrandr for my external monitor brightness, but my understanding is that xrandr doesn't actually affect power consumption and so on my laptop, my battery would drain more quickly. I may have to settle for that, but if I find a better solution I'll post back here.

Brightness not working

I just installed 18.2 Cinnamon and I'm having issues with my brightness function keys not affecting the brightness. All the usual tricks that I've used in the past haven't worked: Out of the box, the function keys bring up the bulb icon and change the brightness bar without actually affecting bright...

Re: Stuck on GPT partition dialoge box during Install of Min

Are you installing this on a harddrive with a Windows installation already installed? Can you re-format and erase all the data on the harddrive or do you need to keep the data on there?
