Re: [SOLVED] How to solve 'maximum of 4 partitions reached'

1) ... 3) For your next machine , get something ATI-free. ... I would recommend too. AND be sure to stay away from SAMSUNG laptops. My WIN-OS failed after the W8.1 update was pushed to my pc, but I could not claim any warranty as I had partitioned my pc in a Win and a data partition, which voids wa...

Re: [SOLVED] How to solve 'maximum of 4 partitions reached'

Thank you reorx for your wise words. I am looking forward to going commando, but I would need to quit fidgeting with settings I don't know much about. (Next step is a VMbox for testing things! ) I doubt I will ever be able to fully leave the Win environment as I have some occasional mechanical and e...

It would be cool if I could move /sda5 (swap) under /sda3 but I am a bit scared of breaking my system.

Re: How to solve 'maximum of 4 partitions reached'

You assumed correctly. I indeed intend to use the Data partition as a way of shared storage between both os. While I managed to merge the unallocated space with the sda4 partition, I wonder if it would be possible ( and perhaps more logical) to house both sda1 and sda2 partitions unde 1 sda, en then...

[SOLVED] How to solve 'maximum of 4 partitions reached'

I am running a dual-boot between Linux Mint and W8. I wanted to partition my hdd so that I would have a 120Gb partition for my windows, a 70Gb partition for my LM17 and what is left would become my data storage space. I ran into a problem as gparted told I could not have anymore than 4 primary parti...

Network structures

I'm not sure where to post this, it's just a general non-mint related topic that I wish to gather knowledge about. (Is there maybe another forum that is focused on these topics?) I am studying how plant-networks are built and layered in the automation industry (especially Profibus and CANbus are rel...

Re: Virtualbox doesn't Update, but I need Extension Pack

I did mean extension pack. Sorry for the confusion.

It still does not work, but I don't need it anymore. So at this moment I don't bother looking any further.
Thank you for the help!

Re: Virtualbox doesn't Update, but I need Extension Pack

Ahah! I thought I or AMD referred to my processor which in my case is Intel. Thank you for pointing that out! ;) *EDIT: I installed the AMD64 version 4.3.16 with the appropriate language pack. Now USB2.0 is supported but when I add a usbfilter, I cannot detect any of the usb-devices attached to my n...

Re: Virtualbox doesn't Update, but I need Extension Pack

I should've included the errormessages from the start, sorry for that. I am running Linux on a 64bit architecture and the Guest OS (Win8) also has a 64bit architecture. When I install it from the website I get this message: error:Breaks existing package 'virtualbox-4.3' that conflict: 'virtualbox'. ...

Re: Linux thinkin/structure compared to Windows

Adapting may probably be a better approach. I bought a simple book with some basic explanations (http://shop.oreilly.com/product/0636920023029.do) that helped a lot to get me on my way and then the Internet and foremost THIS forum has a ton of knowledge, but it takes time to find the right informati...

Creating multiboot with hidden os

I am currently running LM17 on a Samsung Ativ book with 1 physical hdd of 1TB (I used to have Win8 on it, what a mess i made :s ) I like it and wish to stick to it for as much as possible. Unfortunately some specific CAD software does not run on Linux so I need a Windows for those cases. I think I w...

Virtualbox doesn't Update, but I need Extension Pack

Hello, I am running Linux Mint 17 with a Win8.0 in Virtualbox4.3.12 I want to install the Extension Pack, but that one needs my Virtualbox to be at 4.3.16, however I tried to update but cannot get it updated. I tried it via the Virtualbox prgram, via the terminal and via a direct download from their...

I am looking for a way (be it trough GUI or trough Terminal) to monitor the performances of my computer. More specifically I want to be able to see: * what hardware is detected and what their status is * what the performance of the cpu is (I suspect that only 2 cores of my I5 are used for some reaso...

Re: Linux thinkin/structure compared to Windows

I know, I'm trying to figure out how it works. But there such a vast sea of knowledge that I easily get lost now.

Please be gentle with me, I've had 15 years of growing up doing everything in Win98, XP and w7, it's hard to just put this experience aside. Hehe ;)

Re: repartitioning linux while mounted

Just a last quick question to round this of: Can I relabel the Linux partition using GParted or will this mess everything up?

Something like this:
Partition0 with OS (50GB) is labeled LM17
Partition1 with data (940GB) is labeled DATA

Re: repartitioning linux while mounted

Thank you, then I will start with resizing. Or should I just immediately try the Clonezilla, install Windows and then repartition?

What do you suggest?

Re: repartitioning linux while mounted

Here's a picture of what I wanted to do in de GParted Live (USB mounted) Would this resizing be the right thing? (I didn't excute it out of fear of losing my Linux, really don't want that!) So you're planning on installing a version of Windows then? Because the normal procedure is to install Windows...
