Upgrade from Mint 17 to Mint 17.1

I just did it too and it worked great. Only problem I'm having now is getting my iPhone to mount.

Printing from Windows

It's a network printer. I know I installed everything correctly. It just acts up once in a while. I did just update to Mint 17.1 so we'll see if it has anymore problems. I also just turned off hibernation.

Upgrade from Mint 17 to Mint 17.1

I just found this website explaining how to update from 17 to 17.1. I haven't tried it yet, but I will when I get home.

Printing from Windows

So I have my main desktop running Linux Mint 17 XFCE. My wife's laptop is running win vista. My printer is connected to my Linux desktop and I have printer sharing on. It prints without a problem from my desktop, but occasionally, more frequently in recent days, she'll send a document to be printed ...

Why do new people give up on Linux?

I think it makes sense sometimes to have one computer, if your home has more than one, to run Windows. My wife has a Dell laptop that is about 5-6 years old running Vista. She uses a few programs that only run on Windows. Plus, we both have iPhones. And we need iTunes in order sync and connect our p...

Which partitions belong to Windows 7?

I switched over to Mint 17 XFCE. The main reason I am using Linux Mint is so that I am able to stream videos smoothly. Videos are too slow and not smooth on Win 7. But with XFCE and MATE I can watch YouTube videos full screen at 720p with virtually no lag or stuttering. I will probably end up buying...

Which partitions belong to Windows 7?

I installed Cinnamon and I have to say that it is noticeably slower than MATE. My pc has only 2 GB RAM. But it is more beautiful and easy to customize than MATE.

The one highlighted is where Linux mint is installed?

/dev/sda5 would be where the OS would be installed?
/dev/sda6 would be the new Linux swap?

Which partitions belong to Windows 7?

How would I know which partitions belong to Windows so I don't lose any data? By posting the output of sudo parted -l and then someone here telling you. Here are my partitions: I would like to know which ones...

Which partitions belong to Windows 7?

So I am dual booting Windows 7 and Linux Mint 17.1 MATE. When I installed MATE, I let the installer partition my hard drive for me. I am now thinking I want to install Cinnamon and replace MATE and still be able to dual boot into Windows. How would I know which partitions belong to Windows so I don'...

Newbie dual boot questions

When my computer boots I can hit F12 to select which hard drive I want to boot from. So I would think it would make no difference which method you choose to install. I would choose separate hard drives if I was in your shoes just to eliminate the risk of deleting your windows partition. Another bene...

Accessing data from Windows

One of the things that is difficult for me is that my emachines folder or windows folder is accessible in some apps but not others. For instance, I opened up Gimp and couldn't access any pictures on my windows partition. Would it be possible to have both my file explorer and Gimp open and drag and d...

Accessing data from Windows

I know you said you don't want to move it, but if you stored all your media files on a NTFS formatted external hard drive you could access them in both Windows and Linux. As for software, Banshee works best for music libraries and VLC is outstanding for playing videos. You can install third party d...

Printers, leave on / turn off? Which is right ?

I always leave my desktop on as well as my printer. Seeing as how it is my main network computer and my laptop communicates with it for file sharing, it is always easier to leave it on.

I would like to install a few programs that I like to use on Win7 such as iTunes and Spotify as well as several other. Then, I'm afraid you're going to be disappointed ... because iTunes and Spotify don't work well in Linux. You should go to the WineHQ webpage for the Application Compatibility tool...
