Re: Landing on a street

I'm with you there, mac, every country has its "issues" and like all "issues" they can be used as an excuse. I've always been a firm believer in seeing your own country first, but, given the opportunity, I have/would also visit other countries. So far I've been to PNG (as a child) and China (for my ...

Re: Images in L.O. Base

In Base, the only options you get when you right click is to "insert image from" and :"remove image" left click does nothing unless you double click, and then all it does is open the "insert image" window. The only way I can view a large image was via a button which loads pix. It looks like I might ...

Re: Images in L.O. Base

Thanks gm10 grep, pix.desktop ~/.config/mimeapps.list, did nothing at all. Was there supposed to be some output? I went back and re-tried showing the image and still as slow as ever.

Re: Images in L.O. Base

Thant only works from within Nemo, or any other browser, not from within Base. I already have xViewer as the default image viewer in Cinnamon.

Images in L.O. Base

I have developed a database to catalogue my stamp collection. Images are stored in a folder and linked in Base i.e. not stored in the table. I have set up a button to view the image. The control is set to "on mouse button released" = "Standard.Module1.openMainImage (document, Basic)" which then open...

Might be easier just to re-install Linux. The only problem with that is that you learn nothing.

Re: Security Issues that are interesting

Is it actually worth all that trouble on the off chance there might be something worth stealing? What is possible and what is worth doing can be completely different things. Which is why I stated that they were interesting. Nowhere did I insinuate that they were practical. The problem, here, isn't ...

Re: Confession: I bought a MacBook Pro 2019. I just returned it.

Sadly I still depend on dual booting Windows for two pieces of software for now. Office for weird custom Word forms I often need to edit. A VST software for my keyboard. Go do five Hail RMSs and five Our Kernel Dev Teams, and think about what you've done. In the name of the GPL, the Free Software F...

Re: Looking for a hack to change appearance over time.

Not sure about themes but you can change your desktop background at regular intervals. Just right click on the desktop and then on Change desktop background, from there, you can set up a slideshow to change the background as often as you desire.

Security Issues that are interesting

One of my regular newsfeeds is fromTechRadar. today they posted a couple of interesting ones, This fake iPhone charging cable will hijack your computer and for the digital camera owners DSLR cameras could be at risk from ransomware Fortunately my DSLR is a little old for this sort of jiggerpokery an...

Re: BIOS update

To me a BIOS update only occurs if the current BIOS is not performing a task that the new one can. Otherwise, I rarely look at it. Yes, I have done updates in the past, IIRC last time was when W95 was the new kid on the block.

Re: Confession: I bought a MacBook Pro 2019. I just returned it.

I just had the misfortune to have to plug wife's iPad into my Linux machine to transfer a spreadsheet onto it. It only took three attempts to find something that the bl**dy thing could understand. 1st attempt - Open office ODF format - thing thought it was a ZIP file but wouldn't even attempt to ope...

Re: Mac Users

If you think using Linux makes you impervious to browser hacks you are delusional. I'm going with Hoser Rob on this one. The problem isn't the operating system. It's PEBCAK. (Problem Exists Between Chair And Keyboard) She needs to stop clicking on all of the bovine excrement she sees on the web and...

And now for something completely different!

Built in an age where people took care, and pride in their workmanship. The Peacock Clock is a masterpiece! Sadly, I suspect that we are unlikely to ever see the like of this craftsmanship again.
