Re: Subscription service?

If you wish to pay for software as a service, you certainly can. I think that M$ and Bits of Fruit cover that pretty well. If you like a good, stable OS, that uses the "Free" concept in all senses of the word, not just in the FOSS construct, then stay with Mint...... Don't let the door hit you on th...

Re: Format a field in Base

Fixterated! I found that the field into which I was storing the data was set to 10, definitely not long enough!!!!! It didn't quite work as I wanted, but, I'm happy enough with the solution.

At least, typing all this out has focussed my thinking.

Re: Format a field in Base

Didn't werk. I thought, however, that rather than store everything in a memo field, I'd just use an image and embed that. Works fine! Except Error updating the current record Value too long in the statement [Update "_tblOnHand" SET "ohCancellationImg"=?WHERE "onHandID"=?] the issue being, I suspect ...

Re: Why do newcomers stay with Mint?

............. I don't think LM or any other distro will be able to knock off MS or Apple or android (with linux Kernel) so lets not worry about that and just enjoy that some of us are more happy with running our own computing experience than others. I'm dreading turning on my work mandated laptop a...

Re: Software Manager - can we suppress the popup 'this will trigger additional changes'?

Owing to the FOSS nature of Linux and the various packages installed, I'd suggest that this is one feature that should remain as is. Disabling it could have unintended consequences down the track if you choose to install something forgetting that it might affect your existing environment. Having to ...

Format a field in Base <Workaround - solved>

I have a normalize database to catalogue my stamp collection. There are now only two things that are niggling. ONE:- is there any method, that I can ensure data in one field of a table is unique? Cannot seem to find this setting. TWO:- A bigger bugbear is I have a lookup table with data stored forma...

Placing a launcher in the menu <SOLVED>

I've found that I have Libre Office Calc and Libre Office Writer in my "start" menu but none for Base. I've managed to create one for it on my desktop, but how do I manage to put it in the menu where it belongs? Running Cinnamon. System: Host: leigh-HP-ProBook-470-G2 Kernel: 4.15.0-46-generic x86_64...

Re: Mint - Starting Over!

Others will likely differ, however, I have found that legacy seems to be more consistent with stability on install. F'rinstance my machine worked fine in UEFI when I also had Windwoes installed but fell over the moment I went fully Linux. That said, none of my machines are much younger that 5 years ...

Re: Cassette audio to cd/dvd

'nutha vote for Audacity here. I've done it a few times in the past. Once you've "recorded" the cassette, then the fun begins! Post processing,
First I "normalise" the sound, remove any hiss, or clicks then split the tracks. That takes almost longer than the original recording.

Pressing the <Ctrl> key whilst you scroll can affect font size, but usually only for the session.

You could use autocorrect in your favourite word processor, of course that won't work systemwide.

Re: Libre Base - No ability to Record Macros

bugga! I was hoping that macro recording does work in Base. I'm currently developing a database for my stamp collection. Currently in 2NF I am having issues displaying appropriate records, intially in List boxes, (works fine with some basic macros but requires a record save to see the full data), so...

Re: Subscription service?

Paid support? Where? Computers are a global phenomenon. You can get paid support for windwoes almost anywhere in the world because it has such a HUGE marketshare. Until Linux manages to obtain a much larger share of the market, it is just not economical to put trained people on the ground for paid s...

Re: how do i make the firefox on my laptop the same as my desktop including all settings and extentions settings?

You beat me to it, Schultz. Indeed it should result in a "clone" of your browser configuration, down to the session. This is the way I've been doing it for years. It's the stuff in ~/.mozilla/ you need to copy. To keep things up to date, Firefox Sync is the easiest way forward, but this doesn't cop...
