Re: The SOUND of my computer.

If I can hear it, there is something wrong! The only computer that I can hear is my file server, and that is because of the fans I have installed to make sure that it does not get too hot in its (relatively) sealed box.

Re: Easy way to open Camera and dir with photos

Phone is Kyocera VM KYO C6725 Using the list command as root did not change the error. That should have been in your first post. We are NOT talking about a camera here, but a phone. Two different beasities even though they can do similar things. That's a but like asking expecting us to know where t...

Re: MS Excel buttons loosing their text

I said that there was a learning curve, You only have about 10 years of development to adapt. I had about 30 years worth. A lot of which, I found was redundant when I actually went to address the "issues". FYI: one was a 500 page document that relied heavily on customised page, paragraph, and charac...

Re: RAMBleed RAM Attack; New Way To Steal Data

Regardless of the efficiency of said data thief. It's programs like this that help make Linux more secure than other OSs. Patches are usually made quietly and in the background so we never really hear about the problems they cure.

Let's just hope that M$ doesn't read this thread. They might discover a theme here. Nobody likes W10.

Why run M$ Orifice in Wine? Libre Office is just as adequate these days. There is a learning curve, yes, but even Base is almost as good as Access these days.

Hi blues. What part of China are you from? My son is to marry a girl from China later this month. She is apparently the first one from her village to have left China. They met in Darwin and their wedding is going to be traditional Chinese.

I like "Foximile" what about Foximilar which then fixes the mispronunciation problem, too. Be careful with the fox logo or you may run afoul of the copyright police though.

Re: antivirus

Way back when I started out with computers I shortlisted a Commodore 64, an Apple IIE, an Atari (can't recall the model now) an OSBORNE (running CPM) and a DOS machine. Way back then it appeared that DOS was the way to go, though the Apple and Osborne came in close. Apple lost out because it was a c...

Re: Opening W7 'Open Office' documents in Linux Mint Libre Office [SOLVED]

Hi, Simon. The terminal is just Linux speak for command prompt. The only real difference is you can do a lot of damage at the command prompt in windwoes, but it takes more effort in Linux. There really are only a few commands that can destroy a system, so, do not fear it. and no one here is likely t...

Stupid question. Why update it if it's working? Of course I do install all updates offered by update manager, but that is all.
