Re: list of packages that can be uninstalled

Trying to add some sanity to this discussion. Linux, as installed, is a complete package for all and sundry to use. It tries to cover the most common needs. Of course there are bits you won't use/need just like your motor car. You purchase the whole, integrated, package. When you get your new car fr...

Re: Turn a bunch of colored JPG files in one folder into grayscale

The question I might ask is...to what end? Once you convert them to greyscale the colour is gone forever. If all you are doing is trying to save disk space, I'd recommend moving them to another drive, or get a bigger one.

Re: New Build in coming

hi Isemmens, Been there, done that, but a slight correction is in order. Its not JUST a "vow of poverty". Getting married is a "life sentence", (divorce changes your "Sentence" to doing "Hard Time"), and each kid is an additional "Life Sentence" to be served "Consecutively"...hehehehe...DAMIEN You ...

Re: So, "Microsoft" called me ...

I used to Install and fix the things, then moved on to Telephone Exchanges. I "retired" in 1990. Varnished wood box and a bakelite handpiece? old phone.jpeg Actually, Adelaide River Exchange was from that era when I started in the Territory back in the late 70s. I never needed to fix one of those t...

Re: New Build in coming

That would cause a serious "melt-down", and would almost be funny to see. Both are really good kids, and so I am somewhat willing to help them within reason, since they could be worse, much worse. I am blessed with my kids. But the oldest has started taking over my desktop again, since she claims h...

Unusual. Normally they hang up on me when they finally work out that I am running Linux. And, Yes, I string them on as long as I possibly can. :D

Re: Loading Windows 8.1 via ISO on a new SSD

Because WIndwoes does what Windwoes does, I'd be inclined to remove all other drives from the system until you have windwoes working, it's much easier plugging them in again than trying to recover data from a drive that has been overwritten because that's where windoze decided to put something.

Re: Full backup image?

Back in my windowes days I used to do exactly as pBear did. I had a word document with every activation code, and customisation along with the order in which each program was installed. Used to take me nearly two days to get Windwoes up and running again. Now, I never need any customisations so, as...

Re: How to block adult content

Of course, technology is everywhere these days so it makes it a lot harder to monitor your kids' activity, when mine were young, the computer was set up in a public area of the house so we could keep an eye on them without being obvious.

Re: Escapee from WIndows 10 hoping to learn Mint

Welcome to the world of Linux. There is plenty of good information to be learned right here. RTFM can be useful for some things, but, in the Linux world I would be more inclined to RTFF. Raid The Fine Forums. You'll soon learn who's advice is to be valued. If you don't understand something, someone ...

Re: Full backup image?

And now for something completely different....... I do not use any Backup programs, nor do I rely on timeshift. Now to my reasoning. My data is always copied (by me) to my server - which, in itself can be backed up. None of my data on ANY of my machines resides on my OS drive. (OK, it does on my lap...
