Re: Few suggestions a week into linux
Those "suggestions" are your personal opinions, only. I'm happy with the "archaic" forum layout. It achieves the desired result. Customise Linux how you like, that is way better than you can in Windows. Even the keyboard shortcuts can be modified if you wish to. Yes, there are so...

Of course. My comment on frequency was just an indicator of later technology.

Re: Interesting "issue" with updates
Yep! Iwconfig shows a huge difference, the HP runs at 5.18GHz whilst the Toshiba only runs 2.412GHz
Even signal level is double on the HP.

Re: Interesting "issue" with updates
Of course! The Toshiba is only an m2 drive whilst the HP is NVME.
The difference in wifi might also be an issue. As I commented above, it was purely a point of interest. None of my apps are "mission critical" in that if I wait a second or two, it's not going to affect me in the slightest.

All drives are SSDs the OS resides on an M2 drive in both systems.

Interesting "issue" with updates <Solved>
I have two computers with me, one, an HP Elite 2 Tablet, the Other A Toshiba Satellite P70A, so quite different specs. Given that the Toshiba is the more powerful beast, I'd expect that it would be quicker. I've just run Update on both machines and, given that both sets of updates seemed identical I...

What are you trying to do with the music? convert TO MP3, convert MP3 to chord charts or sheet music? Extract a particular audio track from it? Music is waaay too general a term, please be more specific.

Re: Two Sided Printing on Canon MX490
It's years since I've needed double sided printing, but, IIRC your idea of removing the printed one side and returning to the input tray for the other side will work a treat. Just remember to select print odd pages and then print even pages from the print dialog.

Re: Moving the file system
Also, be aware that "Timeshift" backup files are, by default, saved to your linux partition, which can fill up with those, fairly easily. They CAN be moved/deleted, but, as I do not use timeshift, I cannot give any more info. (P.S, Don't tell me I'm silly for not using TS, I'm happy to blo...

Sort by Icon in Nemo (or other FM)
I have a collection of folders containing other data which is irrelevant to this question. I have assigned a different icon to each folder based on its contents. Is there any method available whereby I can sort according to the icon assigned to the folder? Given that I have hundreds of folders all c...

Re: Nemo won't let me copy a file
I forgot about this thread. It does appear to be an ownership issue, but the strange thing is that <ctrl>c, <ctrl>v works where drag and drop doesn't.
If I change ownership from my name to my name, it works i.e. no actual changes in ownership, just a, sudo chown -R $USER:$USER $HOME

Re: Change Color of My Documents Folder on Control Panel
right click on the folder (in Nemo, at least) and select the colour from the line immediately above the Properties item. If you open up properties, by clicking on the icon, you can change it to one of your choosing, too.

Re: No new dirt bike
I'm not fit enough to ride a dirt bike now, and have no desire to get fit enough to do so, even though I could! I do ride a road bike (Suzuki Boulevard C50). I've had to pick that up 4 times in it's life, I try and avoid that too, Fortunately all were low speed falls (at most 10mph).

I've played around with it since late last century. Fully linux (only 'cause of a bit of fruit) for only 12 months.

Re: inheritance questions
My Kids need for nothing, I lived by the motto "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it". They have all grown to be wonderful parents and people. Critical thinkers, all, some of their decisions, I may not necessarily agree with, but, that is...

Thanks Joe2Shoe, that could be worth investigating.
@KMD2023, I have not used keyboard shortcuts for this, I usually just drag and drop.

Re: Nemo won't let me copy a file
I moved to files off that hard drive to isolate that condition. The same problem occurs except, this time, I am copying across the network. SO: Same Problem, Different Circumstances.

Re: Nemo won't let me copy a file
It certainly isn't faulty file system as I've shifted all files to another drive and am now attempting to copy them across the network to my tablet. Same problem copy/paste works, drag and drop does not.
