Folder icons overlap

Hello, When the 'Keep Aligned' option is checked and the names of my folders icons are long, they overlap. Of course, if the 'Keep Aligned' option is unchecked I can arrange my icons as I wish, but is there no option in such a case to have an abridge version of the icons name displayed so they do n...

How to edit /etc/default/rcS ?

When shifting between Win7 and Mint 17.1 the computer clock changes. I have read that I should edit Mint /etc/default/rcS and set UTC=yes to UTC=no.

Once the file is opened the editor does not let me write to change the text. How can I write in the file to change the settings?

Thank you very much.

Synapse not working in my Mint 17.1

Hello, I made a Mint 17.1 clean install yesterday and installed Synapse but I do not succeed to make Synapse work. Once Synapse is open it closes immediately when I type the first letter on my keyboard. A mouse click -left or right- on the desktop also triggers Synapse to close. Any idea how to fix ...

Re: Where to install the boot loader?

Hello nerdtron,

I checked again the Linux Kernels in the Update Manager and I guess that because of its new design I,by mistake, thought that the last kernel 3.16.0-25 was installed but it was only loaded. I installed it and now the sound works like a charm.

Thank you again for helping!

nerdtron wrote:In the terminal try using the alsamixer.

There could be a sound setting there that is muted, try each one..and there are controls on the right side so don't forget them also.
I ran alsamixer and got "cannot open mixer: No such file or directory"

Re: Where to install the boot loader?

You can try installing Mint while the windows drive is disconnected. Reboot and be sure that Mint is booting correctly. Now set the BIOS boot priority first on the Mint drive. The computer will surely boot to Mint and will not recognize windows. On Mint, run "sudo update-grub" to update the GRUB en...
