Re: GPU Temperature
Hi @bogward, If you just want to check from the command line, you could install the lm-sensors package and then check temperatures with either sensors amdgpu-* or sensors radeon-* (probably the first one). I coincidentally ran across https://github.com/Syllo/nvtop the other day too - it was original...

Re: Linus Torvalds doubts Linux will get ported to Apple M1 hardware
Yes, the function key/task bar that's now integrated into MacBook Pros is cool, and their touch pad is probably the best you can get, but beyond that, why start out with using restrictive hardware? I can give a bit of an answer to this from my perspective, at least (yes, I've moved to the dark side...

Re: What distro would you use for your main daily driver other than Mint?
Without Mint, LMDE specifically, I'd probably hop back and forth between Debian, Ubuntu, and Arch. MATE or Gnome for all -- I've got to where I like Gnome a lot more than I used to.
Then again macOS is now my daily driver so there's that...

Re: Zoom and security of files
I read that Firejail has caused many problems, is it so? Hi Kissanminttu, I'm one of the primary Firejail devs -- if there's anything I can do to help you run Zoom in firejail feel free to ask or PM me! We've closed several issues with Zoom recently -- as far as I know there are no remaining issues...

Re: LMDE3 updated iso
Hi @topolink,
Not that I'm aware of, short of completely rebuilding the iso image yourself. That said, IIRC Clem and co did release an updated LMDE 2 iso at some point, so it's not impossible that they'd do the same for LMDE 3. Honestly though with LMDE 4 so close I wouldn't expect this.
Cheers!

Now, if I just wanted to mean, I would tell you about the other twenty eight 4TB SSDs I have...oopsie...I just did.  Seriously, though, my heart gets ripped out just a little every time I'm at work. A lot of what we do (deep learning for applied particle physics, sort of) gets run on som...

Re: The following packages have unmet dependencies
Hi @urdrwho
Can you give a bit more info about this? What command/steps are you taking before you see these errors?
Also could you run the following for me in your terminal and post the output?
Cheers!

Re: How Many Partitions Are Allowed on a Drive?
Hi Lady Fitzgerald! The answer depends on if your disk uses the MBR (older) or GPT partition scheme. If it's MBR then you can only have 4 maximum*, if GPT then there's no practical limitation. To check, run the following in your terminal please: sudo fdisk -l Then look for "Disklabel ty...

Re: Would Linux Reduce Ransomware Attacks?
Not relevant to the topic (I do, of course, agree with you that attack vectors on Android are very different from those on Linux) but I felt like pointing out that my Android phone has got the same bash shell as my desktop, and if you're going to use the shell you typically add BusyBox. BusyBox is ...

Re: Would Linux Reduce Ransomware Attacks?
I'm thinking Linux would be much harder to penetrate than Windows, if the base system was a solid security distro like Qubes, Parrot, or Tails. https://www.zdnet.com/article/this-new-android-ransomware-infects-you-through-sms-messages/ - This new Android ransomware infects you through SMS messages ...

I used to be all Linux (except for work) but I've discovered OneNote and really love it for research notes, work meetings... practically everything, really. So my laptop is a Surface Pro running Windows 10. Surprisingly, I don't hate it. It's actually a decent OS for my coding needs (python and rust...

Re: Backup Backup Backup!
I do love rsync for this exact reason. Been bit too many times without a good backup. Now it's just 5-10 minutes a week and my /home is backed up nice and safe. @lsemmens if I may... It's been a long time since I played around with Tails, but IIRC they purposely made it rather hard to access your ha...
