Re: Cashless Society is getting closer

Any businesses that only accept cash I suspect of being scammers, tax dodging frauds, money laundering criminals, or about to go out of business because why else would they not purchase or rent a pay terminal? That's funny. :) In my part of the world it's not uncommon for cash-only, particularly in...

Re: Your Computer Specs and Price Paid

Dell Optiplex 790, i5 processor, 8GB DDR2 ram, 500 GB hard drive. $20 used from a local university -- but it didn't have a hard drive and had only 4 GB ram. I used a refurbished hard drive I'd bought earlier (don't remember price) and added the additional 4 more GB of ram (also don't remember price)...

Re: Canonical giving up on Ubuntu desktop.

Ah, good. For a moment there I thought we'd be deprived of this great green OS. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Cinnamon based on Gnome? If "yes", then Mint does use Gnome, altough a modified version. Kinda-sorta. From what I understand Cinnamon is a true fork now instead of a customis...

Re: Canonical giving up on Ubuntu desktop.

Canonical giving up on Ubuntu desktop What does that mean for the future of Mint? Does that mean Mint will not be developed at some point? No worries for that. Ubuntu is continuing, they're just using Gnome instead of their home-grown Unity as the desktop environment. Since Mint doesn't use either ...

Maybe it's intentional for firejail to prevent opening these config files, but IMO, that's just too restrictive.
It's intentional in this case. I'll get a workaround posted. :)

Re: Downloading Python 3 to Linux Mint 18.3

Yep, it should almost certainly be there. Quickly firing up a terminal and typing firejail --version, then hitting enter, should tell you precisely which release of Pyton 3 you have.

Re: The "fox" is buying the hen house???

In the end it could be that Microsoft is the victim, here. It is paying $7.5B for a company with a (2015) market evaluation of $2B and an annual revenue of $200M. It is purchasing what looks like a unicorn, but it could actually be a donkey with a horn tied to its head. ...is Gitlab going to ...

Re: The "fox" is buying the hen house???

As long as Atom doesn't suffer, I'm actually a bit happy to hear this for a few reasons: (a). It's additional validation of the influence and value of open source. Even if GitHub itself isn't open-source, it's still the single most popular hosting site for all these open source projects (including L...

Re: Xed as default editor using FileZilla

@Gruppo Sportivo since you have a Github account, could you open an issue in our issue tracker? https://github.com/netblue30/firejail/issues It will be easier to get an explanation or a fix there. ;)
Thanks!

Re: Firejail beta-testers wanted!

slipstick: no idea. Can you run xreader from terminal (or firejail xreader if there's not a symlink in /usr/local/bin), try to open a pdf, and post the output?

Re: Firejail beta-testers wanted!

Hi everyone, and sorry for the super-late reply. @Amii - slipstick was almost right. Just add a final * to the end of the noblacklist /usr/lib/python3 line (so it should look like noblacklist /usr/lib/python3* ). @trytip can you post an example? We've got several similar reports floating a...

Re: Firejail beta-testers wanted!

Oh, that makes a lot more sense now! You can't open any files in any sort of /bin folder (/bin, /usr/bin, /usr/local/bin, and so on) besides the xed binary (which ordinarily wouldn't be opened in a text editor anyhow). This is because the private-bin xed filter in the profile blocks access to any ot...

Re: Advantages and disadvantages to LMDE over standard LM releases?

Back when I ran LMDE I really liked getting the newest MATE but still having a super-stable base.Old software wasn't so much an issue for me since, usually, everything I wanted newer versions of was in backports. Now with flatpaks and snaps, it should be even easier to get newer software when LMDE 3...

@slipstick, that's strange. I'm having no problems opening a root-owned python script with firejail-ed xed:

Are you using a customised xed profile? If so, can you post it here?

Re: Firejail beta-testers wanted!

Hey guys, More info later if needed, but we have tried to block or limit dbus access whenever possible with this latest release. It's a huge security hole and has been a headache for a while (in certain circumstances it's possible to circumvent parts of the firejail sandbox with dbus). So... the mes...

Re: Firejail beta-testers wanted!

"noblacklist /usr/lib/python3*" (wildcard added at end), it worked (uses python 3.5 ?) Good catch - it's a typo.
