in one of the attempts I made that thing that the installer calls "efi boot partition" and put the bootloader there. it didn't say to be fat32 or not. the fat32 option itself didn't offer the / location but only /dos and /windows, therefore I considered it unlikely to be the right option for Linux. ...

I am sorry for not replying, my computer had some kind of dead boot from all the ons and offs so I had to wait until the battery was empty until I could turn it on again. Thank you for your reply. This was one of the first things I tried. Although I had to use the UEFI mode, as in legacy mode the US...

Mint and Ubuntu work mostly symmetrical to each other so you might just apply it to mint.

in which partition is your grub located? If it is not the Windows boot partition you could check the boot flags of your partitions in gparted and unflag the windows boot partition while flagging the one where you put grub into. this way grub has a higher priority. but better wait until somebody else...
