Re: Unreliable left mouse button software (especially after suspend)

I am still having trouble with this so would appreciate any suggestions people may have (even advice about where else to ask this question). Here are some minor further developments/comments: --I can do ctrl-alt backspace to restart the window manager. This is not the fix I want as it kills all the ...

Unreliable left mouse button software (especially after suspend)

I recently installed Mint 18 on a Thinkpad Yoga X1, and everything works well, except sometimes the left mouse button: It works fine most of the time except: ---sometimes after suspending it wakes up and the button is already clicked on the edge of a window, and I cannot left go of the window. Or it...

idle dim time

How do I adjust the time before the screen dims on linux mint 18? (MATE) I see from the power management preferences that I can deselect to dim the display when idle (on battery power). Instead I would like to set it to dim after a minute or so rather the 5-10 seconds (and then to return to the prev...

Re: Properly undo change to proprietry drivers?

OK I gave up trying to fix this and went for a full re-installation. It will only take a few hours... I note that the fresh installation _does not have_ an /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, so it is not at all clear to me what the problem was Needless to say I will not be playing with fglrx again any time so...

Re: Properly undo change to proprietry drivers?

OK that helped to get the driver manager back to normal (the part "continue using manually installed driver" has now gone and it is back to its original state)... But the screen behaviour is unchanged, and windows still open all black... (and there is still no file /etc/X11/xorg.conf) Here are some ...

Properly undo change to proprietry drivers?

So I foolishly thought it might be good to try the proprietry driver fglrx-updates But then it wouldn't boot. Then I managed to remove the driver and get back to a system that booted via some combination of apt-get remove --purge fglrx apt-get remove --purge fglrx-updates sudo mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf ...

Re: installed Mint on unallocated partition...

OK thanks anyway (it actually seems to be samsung, not intel, but similar anyway). I get the impression it is fine, but that gparted doesn't deal with nvme devices. Here are some of the other outputs in case anyone else has suggestions/advice: ~>lsblk NAME MAJ:MIN RM SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINT sda 8:0 ...

installed Mint on unallocated partition...

I just installed Mint 17.3 on a new computer and it seems to have not partitioned the drive for me... Everything works fine though so I want to know if this is a problem, or if I should reinstall, and partition the drive myself? More precisely gparted says that the whole drive is "unallocated" (part...

Re: Backup tool filled wrong harddrive...

Ah, thanks, that helps, because I now was able to run it with sudo (it is basically the same as Disk Usage Analyser I was using before). It seems "Backup Tool" started to create a full copy of my home directory in: /media/myname/c78dbf2a-1d12-4c24-b42a-73502fb63424 rather than actually copying it to...

Re: Backup tool filled wrong harddrive...

I just deleted 150 gb of files (that were already backed up) and the numbers from Disk Usage Analyser adjusted as follows:

capacity: 499.3 gb (used: 350.6 gb available 148.7 gb)

and folder / has 100% usage with size 188gb

Thus I still can't find the missing 170gb or so... (350.6 - 188 =162.6gb)

[Solved] Backup tool filled wrong harddrive...

I just ran Admin/Backup Tool to copy my entire / directory from the internal hard drive to an external hard drive and now the internal hard drive is completely full. It is a 507gb partition on a 512gb drive and was only 324gb full beforehand. I cannot find where the last 170 gb has disappeared to: I...

Re: Stop programs resizing my windows?

Thanks for your updated answer, phd21. Re: Stop programs resizing my windows?

Thanks for the suggestions. Maximus looks too crude for me (I don't want everything maximised, but carefully positioned [and then not moving at all]) I found this webpage: http://pdfreaders.org/ which pointed out "qpdfview", which seems very nice---as far as I can tell its the only free alternative ...

Re: Stop programs resizing my windows?

I agree, I would love to escape from acroread. But the linux community really needs to take much more seriously the fact that, increasingly, many people spend their lives reading pdfs (e.g. 8 hours a day every day), and every minor improvement makes a big difference. I'm an academic and spend all my...

Stop programs resizing my windows?

Is there some way to completely disable programs from resizing my windows (at the level of the window manager)? For example acroread is like an evil dictator : e.g. 1) it moves the window back onto the center of the screen whenever I reload the pdf. ---No acroead I _do_ want that window half off the...
