Re: Cannot install Linux Mint on HP Laptop - Keeps booting into Windows

You can make the Line permanent by editing (as Root) the /etc/default/grub file and adding it to this line GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="elevator=noop quiet splash" save the file and then run this command in a terminal sudo update-grub Then reboot. That will make the other stuff you need permanent on...

Did you follow the instructions after "If your graphics card is from NVIDIA, once in Linux Mint, perform the following steps to install the NVIDIA drivers ..."
Hi, yes that's what I did, as mentioned in previous post.

Thanks

However in mint how do I change it to 5Ghz? I am currently getting link speeds of 75Mbs when i should get 200MB

Re: Locked myself out of sudo group

As I assumed: You made a typo. Compare the command, which you entered with that, what I gave you: su -c adduser asimr sudo Enter in a terminal su -c 'adduser asimr sudo' See the difference: those 2 little ' And here you entered the wrong password: asimr@asimr-Aspire-E1-572 ~ $ su Password: su: Auth...

Re: Locked myself out of sudo group

I get this adduser: Only root may add a user or group to the system Please show us the output of the terminal inclusive(!) the command. I suspect a typo. Another method: Enter in the terminal only su , after entering the password you should get slightly different prompt, ending with the sign # . No...

Re: Locked myself out of sudo group

Enter in a terminal su -c 'adduser asim sudo' This assumes, that your username is asim; otherwise replace this word accordingly. To make this effective, you have to log out and back into your account after that. Note: the command asks for a password. by default the needed password is the same as yo...

Re: Locked myself out of sudo group

I cannot do that either. It requires a password to go into users and groups. it says "The application /usr/share/cinnamon/cinnamon-settings/users/cinnamon-settings-users.py" lets you modify essential parts of the system. I tried my password and it keeps saying incorrect. Even though i can login to m...

[SOLVED]Locked myself out of sudo group

Hi, I added another user to the PC and in doing that I think I must have changed my account to a standard account, now I am not an Admin and neither is the new user! I ran the id command and for groups I only belong to asimr group. When I run sudo command I get sorry, asimr is not allowed to run /bi...

Re: Linux Mint hangs after resume

Hi! Okay, because I don' t have experience with (U)EFI, I only can tell you what I would recommend in a BIOS case: shrink /dev/sdb6 from 245 to 233 - 235 GB, ignoring the swap on /dev/sdb5 and establish a new swap /dev/sdb7 - with the newest GParted live (v. 0.23); but there would be 2 problems: 1,...

Re: Linux Mint hangs after resume

Hi! To help we need more info. Maybe you first should read through my help (-> signature). In any case attaching a screen shot of GParted would be a good idea. And please answer: BIOS or UEFI? Installed operating systems? Hi, using UEFI. Got Windows 10 and Linux mint on this laptop. (Both OS are on...

Linux Mint hangs after resume

Hi, I have been having this issue for a while now where after I resume my laptop from Hibernate I never get shown a login screen, just the time and a background image, it just seems to hang there (I know it hangs, because the time never changes!). I have no idea what causes the issue. It is very ann...

Re: Your opinions on Windows 10 so far..

I tested Windows 10 myself, it is good. If I was a Windows user I would definitely upgrade. and I hate why I have junk apps I cannot uninstall such as Music This is not new. Windows Media Player, Edge, and everything they include like this cannot be removed. And I hate it as well. What I mean was t...

Your opinions on Windows 10 so far..

Since Windows 10 has been released what do you all think of it for those who have installed and used it. On a personal note I kind of hate all the CLOUD based stuff, I've always hated cloud based services with the exception of Dropbox for University work. I hate how Microsoft want you to use a Micro...

How to hide grub boot options

Hi All,

How can I hide the grub boot options and directly boot into Linux? I got dual boot with Win 7 and Linux, I select the OS via the bios boot options, so when I select Linux I don't need another screen asking which OS I want to go in.

Thanks
Asim
