Re: Highest security for Linux Mint - for free

Checking the Full Disk Encryption option during the installation will encrypt your whole installation (other than the boot partition) and using dm-crypt and LUKS. This is highly secure encryption built right into the Linux kernel. In addition to this you might want to check out Tomb( https://www.dyn...

Re: Changing passwords? ('user' and 'LUKS')

Boot into a live environment of Mint off of either a DVD or a USB thumbstick and locate the drive that contains your LUKS encrypted device. (Mine is /dev/sda5.) Then just open a terminal and type "sudo cryptsetup luksChangeKey /dev/sda5" (changing /dev/sda5 to whatever applies in your case). The liv...

Re: How to "Dropbox" Without Dropbox

I personally have an ownCloud installation which gives me all the functionality of Dropbox (and more) and the data is nice and safe at home. :D For backups I use Deja-Dup which backs up to that same server daily. That server also rsyncs daily to ANOTHER server on my LAN. I know...

It looks like you already got it. Just add that line to the bottom of the /etc/fstab file.

Re: Full disk encryption + encrypt home folder?

I use full disk encryption on LM 17. The default setup makes an encrypted LUKS container containing an LVM group with / and swap partitions. I have no issues with suspending or hibernation.

Re: Problem installing Genymotion

First thing I would try is moving it to a different folder and trying to run it again. If that doesn't work, perhaps your download was corrupted. Try redownloading it from genymotion.com

Re: Linux Distros with better upgrade systems?

I'm going to assume that you made this post after having installed LM16 then needing to upgrade to 17. I understand that it's a huge pain in the ass to do so, but now that the Mint team has decided to stick with the LTS base and use those for their point releases, the next few upgrades will be trivi...
