Re: Manjaro overtakes Mint in Distrowatch page-hit rankings
I have been running Manjaro for about 3 months now and have installed Cinnamon and Mate. My computer is a desktop (no laptop) and I have had NO lockups. Their system requires some learning time like all distros. I have changed most of the themes to satisfy my taste and all work fine. So far, the upd...

Re: What would you use if Mint wasn't available?
Linux Mint Mate is the my number one go-to desktop. Of course, I have tried most all of the other desktops as well as many of the other distros. Years ago, I used KDE on PCLinuxOS and liked it alot. I then discovered Linux Mint and have been satisfied. I still like to check what other distros have t...

Re: No useable alternatives to MS Office?
Libre Office makes a copy for Windows. Install it (free) onto the Windows machines. That should solve the compatibility problem.

Re: Trying to determine my 'Backup' method
I take a little different approach. 1. I connect a second hard drive to my motherboard (easy access via removable panel). 2. Load live dvd of linux mint. 3. use dd command to clone sda to sdb. This copies the entire operating system and user data. For a 1TB drive it takes about 2 hours to complete. ...

Re: New Linux Mint KDE,Same old problem
I have a GTX650 Nvidia card also installed in my computer. I have never got the 375.xx video driver to work even though it is the recommended one. I have the the alternate 340.102 drivers working. You might try making the change.

Re: LightDM not displaying background image...
I have a fresh install of Cinnamon 18.2 and this works for me-- Open terminal and type lightdm-settings Type password and a menu will appear. I changed the background photo to any in my user folder. Close menu. I close the terminal first with ctrl c then exit. Seems to work every time. Perhaps this ...

Re: <SOLVED> How do I go back to MDM
If you don't want to return to MDM but want to change the login background photo provided in lightdm, type "lightdm-settings" in a terminal. This will provide you with a menu showing different options-- background picture (of a photo in your user folder), grid (on off) and some other items...

Re: Brother QL-700 Won't Print
It appears that your Brother printer is very new and not yet supported by the Linux Foundation. According to the Brother website, they provide a driver for linux printers. http://support.brother.com/g/b/downloadlist.aspx?c=us&lang=en&prod=lpql700eus&os=130 I would try downloading the dri...

Re: Monitor sleeps after 10 minutes inactivity
I used your command xset -dpms and that worked for the session as you stated.
I restarted the computer and dpms was enabled as shown by xset -q.
I checked the Startup Applications and it shows Power Manager it to be turned off (no X in square).
Any ideas as to how dpms gets turned back on?

Xed editor Tab Problem [SOLVED]
Xed editor does not print the keyboard "Tab" correctly in Linux Mint Mate 18.1. It makes 4 spaces instead of one wide space. I installed Gedit and solved my editing problem.
