Re: How to Change BIOS to UEFI and convert Disk to GPT

Thank you for the replies. I bought the card from a computer shop and was told by the guy who sold me the card that he tested it in his system and it worked so it must be my system, possibly because mine is in Legacy mode not UEFI. From what I've read here, it looks like wiping the drive would be ea...

Re: How to Change BIOS to UEFI and convert Disk to GPT

1. The card won't display at all in my system even tho the fans spin and it's obviously getting power. 2. I bought a new Seasonic "Focus" Gold 750w PSU because I thought it may be a power issue. Still no. 3. It's written on the box. 4. The card works in a newer system which is UEFI. Thanks for your ...

My set up is Dual boot Win 7 with Mint 19.3. Can I change the Linux Partition to GPT without reinstalling all my da...

I installed mint 19.3 a few days ago and The damn screen goes black while I'm trying to watch a movie. I've tried turning off the screensaver and setting the power settings to never suspend or hibernate but no luck. I didn't have this problem before I upgraded from Mint 18. I've looked everywhere bu...

Re: Mint randomly won't start up

cynicpink, OK, so now when you boot you will see lots of information when the initram is loading. Hopefully it will help narrow-down the problem. I get a huge wall of text that goes way to fast to read. Thanks for your help. It only does it now and then, so I'll just live with it :) How do I stop t...

Re: Mint randomly won't start up

cynicpink, This problem is in the initram well before the actual root filesystem is mounted. Can you change the line in /etc/default/grub that reads GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="debug=vt" then run sudo update-grub When you boot a lot of info will be displ...

Re: No Mobile Broadband with Petra

the wifi should 'just work' - oob move your mouse onto the network icon & click to see if your wifi connection is there. the Mobile Broadband is different. usually the O/S can see the usb stick, but cannot engage the modem side of it. - which usb modem & isp is it?. also, check that the modeswitch ...

Re: No Mobile Broadband with Petra

wifi and mobile broadband would be different. First is for connection to routers, second is using cellphone data connections. You could however try the NDISwrapper program available in the Menu to load Windows drivers for it, see if that solves the situation for you. Thankyou for reply. I can't fin...

No Mobile Broadband with Petra

Hi all. I installed Mint 16 three days ago and cannot get my mobile broadband working. It worked flawlessly "out of the box" with Mint 14. Is Mobile Broadband considered Wifi? Can I use the directions for "mintWifi" to diagnose. getting very frustrated with this, and "Googling" is no help. Thanks fo...

Re: HOME Folder and sub-folders Appeared on Desktop.

This is driving me nuts! I've made a new Desktop folder as suggested and added the line to the .config, folder but the icons still come back on the desktop next boot. Also, the new desktop folder is empty when viewed through the file system when the icons are on the desktop.

Re: HOME Folder and sub-folders Appeared on Desktop. (SOLVED

@modellerau and cynicpink, Fantastic! Glad it's solved. You're both welcome. :D Actually, it's not quite. It keeps reverting back to the icons on the desktop every time I log back on. I keep editing those settings and it works, then every time I turn the computer off and then back on, the problem i...

"Edit your ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs file." Thankyou for your reply, but I have no idea how to do that In the text editor (GEdit), open the above-mentioned configuration file. The file itself is " user-dirs.dirs ". It is located inside a hidden folder called " .config ", which in turn is located in ...

Re: HOME Folder and sub-folders Appeared on Desktop.

Maybe there's something wrong with me, but that looks normal :? That's how mine would look if I had those desktop settings enabled. It's not normal for me. I hate Icons on my desktop. I only have three max. I've wasted so much time trying to work out how to get rid of them. What desktop settings ha...
