Re: Linux Mint Appreciation Thread. Because it is the best OS on the planet!

My heart goes out to all of Clem's Team. I understand how they feel, I write code for PLCs and the HMI/Touchscreens because I can (I do this for fun) this is not really part of my job (Equipment Engineering for a major semiconductor Fab). Most of the complainers have no idea what it takes just to ha...

Re: Why do newcomers stay with Mint?

All I've been using LM for a while now (5 years in Sept) and it does just about everything I need, I have called Linux Mint "The lazy mans OS" in the past because it simply works right out of the box. I came here after a 4 months stint with Ubuntu and haven't left (I went to Ubuntu when XP was kille...

Re: Why did you decide to install Linux Mint??

For me It was when XP support ended, it had been years since I tried Linux so I gave Ubuntu a try. I was in awe at how far Linux had come and how quick a clean install was (~15 Min). I was able to do everything I needed using Linux apps and it was a steep learning curve  After awhile (~4 mont...

Re: [Solved] 32 GB SSD enough?

Pjotr

I am currently running Mint 19 Cinnamon on this https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product. ... 6856501024
It runs very well and no screen tearing when on Netflix or Amazon, after installation I had over 12 Gig remaining.
A 32 gig hard drive is more than enough so don't worry.

Re: LM 19 - very slow boot

All Just an FYI, I tried the new Ubuntu as well and the boot times were just as slow, I know there is a command that displays boot time for each segment, I'll search before going back to 17.3, I'll edit this post if it says anything. System: Host: mint Kernel: 4.15.0-20-generic x86_64 bits: 64 gcc: ...

Re: LM 19 - very slow boot

All I have the exact same problem VERY slow boot on an older computer. I replaced 18.3 with 19 and boot times were 7.3 minutes, shut down was about 6 min. I reloaded 17.3 mate (I had it handy) and with the upgraded processor, SSD and RAM (preparing for 19) boot time is measures in seconds. Below is ...

Re: Why Linux Mint?

Why Mint??? Well, let me ask you a question, why are there so many different car makers out there. Cars, they all do the same thing they get you from point A to point B and isn't that the most important thing? Why are there so many different styles of homes? they all do the same thing, they provide ...

Afternoon All Loaded 19 Mate in the HTPC and it took the Nvidia 390 no problems (had full access to the set up screens) Works great except when making fonts larger the weather app dissipaters from next to the time and I still had screen tearing on Netflix, I forgot how much I like Mate, its look and...

Re: My test drive of Mint 19

All Reload Mint 19, didn't load anything else because I wanted to focus on "What the average person" would do in dealing with the video issue. The 3 options the driver manager offered me was Nvidia 340, Standard xorg and Nvidia 390. the 340 put me into fall back Mode, Xorg put me in rendering mode a...

Re: Linux Mint 18.3

Greetings All I too have been running 18.3 Cinnamon for a bit now and these are my impressions after a few days (I got such CRAP the last time I posted about a Beta (18.2) before it was announced, I decided this time to keep quiet). A refresher, this computer is a HTPC that is on from the moment I g...

Re: Chrome and Firefox both crashing in 18.2 with Mate

JeremyC You posted everything was working fine until installing Chrome and doing updates. I noticed in your Inxi image you have 4.10 kernel. Everyone, correct me if I am wrong but doesn't 18.2 come with 4.8 kernel, could this be the root of the problem. Just an observation AFM Edit: brain seizure wh...

Re: Testing Mint 18.2 Cinnamon Beta (I think)

All Found a work around for the already installed OnBoard app (Oh and Software Manager says it is already installed by default). Testing Mint 18.2 Cinnamon Beta (I think)

All I saw on the Linux Mint community testing section that 18.2 was approved for Beta testing, so I checked some of the hosting sites (the sites where mint ISO is hosted) and I found the Beta (uploaded yesterday with a TXT file with the check sum that was uploaded today) and have started to download...

Re: Built a new computer

CPU ~ 35C @ idle (web surfing, netflix, etc) 52 C when stress testing, GPU 30 C idle, 35 being stressed, I'm actually surprised at the low temps. increased all voltages buy 5% and haven't had any problems so far. This is my HTPC so there is little demand. As I type(according to Psensor) CPU 38 C, Gp...
