Re: LMDE 2 vs Debian Jessie with Cinnamon

Hi folks. Steve Cook calling. Been AWOL from Mint for a year or two while using Ubuntu Mate. However, with the recent news that Canonical have got into bed with Microsoft, decided to give Mint another go. I guess I'll give my reasoning here for having a problem with Canonical's actions. The followin...

Display all network folders in places menu in Mint Mate 17

This solution assumes all relevant drives are fully mounted, you have installed Samba, have assigned the relevant folders to Samba and have already designated them as shared. It has been implemented on Mint Mate 17 using the standard, traditional Mate Menu as opposed to the Mint Advanced Menu. The r...

Re: All Desktop Screenshots - October 2014

Having installed and used Linux Mint Mate 17 for a week or two now, I have made a few tweaks and have finished at what I think is the setup I can live happily with. I have linked to a video of my setup below:

Re: Can't get a script to run at startup

Thanks very much for the advice Buzzsaw and I agree, a "sleep" prefix would have been the logical thing to do, which is why I tried it first before using the multiple repeat command. I varied it between 3 and 10 seconds. Unfortunately It didn't work even at a ten second delay. Don't ask my why, I ha...

Re: Can't get a script to run at startup

Okay, seem to have come up with a working fix. Though it is a bit "brute force" in terms of methodology. I initially tried putting the code in the rc.local file, but no go. I then tried to run the actual bash script as a command in the rc.local file. Still no go. I then simply repeated that command ...

Re: Can't get a script to run at startup

Hi Jus Tertii

Thanks for your advice. Unfortunately, I put the code in the rc.local file and still no luck. However, again, when I direclty ran the script after having logged in, it worked.

Watch 4oD in Firefox in Mint Mate 17

Some people may have noticed that when they go to the 4oD website and try to watch live streaming TV, it refuses to play in Firefox. A quick solution to that is as follows: You need to add a PPA to your repositories. To add the PPA open a terminal and enter the following commands in turn sudo add-ap...

Create launchers in any location in Mint Mate 17

As you may already know, if you are on the dekstop in Mint with the Mate desktop, you can right click and one of the menu options is to create a launcher. This option, however, is not available when you are in a folder in your home directory or in a folder you may have created on the desktop. In oth...

Install Canon LBP 2900i printer in Mint Mate 17

Hi folks. My name is Steve Cook. I'm a newcomer to Linux Mint. I have been using Mint 17 with Mate for a couple of days now and have just got my Canon LBP2900i printer to work after a bit of fiddling with settings and little bash scripting. It requires that you run a small script each time you log i...

Hi from an ex Ubuntu user

Good evening folks. My name is Steve Cook. Been on Ubuntu since 10.04 LTS. Didn't like Unity at all. But, stuck with Ubuntu via Gnome shell. However, just installed Mint with Mate. A few tweaks later and I have to say I am mightily impressed. It runs like the wind compared to Gnome shell and has all...
