Re: Veracrypt 1.24-Hotfix1
I believe that my post was wrong and my original order was as Catweazel just said: the pas-phrase was first, then the root password request (to mount the drive).
I seem to have two root operations occurring (?)

And finally... no matter what type of backup strategy you use, you have to test it

Re: CS Student from Minnesota Looking to Get Involved!
Welcome Diggy,
I studied CS a looong time ago (graduated 1991) and although there have been lots of changes sine then, the basic concepts are still the same!
I am sure that you will be able to get stuck into some design/coding that satisfies your curiosity.
Enjoy!

Re: (SOLVED) How to change default location of user standard folders e.g Documents
its not as polished as Windows Well... in some respects maybe, e.g. third party hardware vendors tend to provide drivers to support the interface to the latest version of windows and there is more software written for windows as it is the default OS on most PCs. But in others aspects linux surpasse...

Re: Old laptop
I agree with the SSD recommendation. Currently I am running Cinnamon 19.1 on an old laptop with very similar specs to the OP - but using an SSD. Bootup takes about 15 seconds - much quicker than Win 7 on my dual boot. The system runs very well. System: Host: nc-Satellite-C650 Kernel: 4.15.0-48-gener...

Re: Free PDF editing Software
... I know that others are using either Adobe Readers or Foxit software and I thought of getting PDF Studio but it is still too steep. So my question is: Is there a Linux Mint alternative to those programs that is free of charge, or do I need to pay to be able to work with pdfs? I went through a si...

Re: Sell me on Linux please!
Let me give you a couple of reasons you might not want to use Linux: 1) If lack of compatibility with that 10 year old printer you use with Windows is a show stopper. In my case, just the reverse... my HP 1010 printer (manufactured September 2003) was not supported in Windows7, but was supported in...

Re: Net Neutrality
Unfortunately any change to law has to have a political element, by definition, as politicians tend to be law-makers  But I'll try to give a neutral view, i.e. not left or right (or even centrist) Here's a thought: Lets say a major international ISP is owned and controlled by persons with cert...

Re: My messing has disabled MintUpdate
In the Update Manager/View/History of Updates what is the date of the last updates? I haven't seen many lately--mine shows 12/13 My last one is 2017-12-16 - 12:58:26 multisystem 1.0406 1.0407 so maybe there is no update out there anyway and this has been a false alarm? UPDATE at 3.44pm 23 December ...
