Re: How To: Login to your linux box remotely.

Glad I could help, JesseWilliams, though I should probably update this how-to with what I now know about dyndns.org - an amazing site that effectively gives you a free domain tied to your non-fixed IP, allowing you to be done after step 2! It also gets around the issue of having to know in advance y...

Re: mint special google search page....

Sorry, I do think that my question posted immediately prior to your post is a valid question. Does the "adjustment system" that you're speaking of mean that those steps that erginemr posted don't work with Mint 8, or that they are not applicable? Just asking, because it's sounding to me l...

Re: mint special google search page....

ENOUGH of this squabbling: please keep discussions civil and fact-based, don't take perceived comments as personal attacks as they probably weren't intended to be. <-- This is related only to page 4 of this topic FACT: Mint's custom google search generates a significant amount of Mint's income FACT:...

Re: Where oh where are my Mint Fortunes?

mint-fortune is provided by the mint-system package. If you've lost it, a simple reinstall should be sufficient:

Code: Select all

apt reinstall mintsystem

Re: Good news for those living in the UK that like the outdo

site still down. I've been anticipating this for ages, since I am very involved in hiking. However I'm very disappointed as the *original* article states that the Explorer (1:25k) and Landranger (1:50k) scales are not included (so your complaints are still valid). Indeed, a quick browse of data.gov....

Re: How To: Login to your linux box remotely.

Most of the hard part is on the host system end, you should be able to connect to it using any device that can run an ssh client program (you probably need to install openssh according to many google results)

Actually by the looks of it, it's Ubuntu's notify-osd incorrectly absorbing response notifications, as well as the ordinary no-response notifications.

Re: Bugtracking is now on Launchpad

There are multiple launchpads for linux mint - one for the distro, which I'm assuming is the one you're checking, then one for mintupdate, one for mintmenu, one for mintupload... I picked the most appropriate one for my bug - mintmenu. In my opinion, these extra launchpads need closing down. I see ...

Re: Add VPN support to Mint by default

emorrp1, don't forget the filesystem on the CD is compressed so they would take up less room then that. True, but the main thing I noticed when investigating this is that full VPN is "large", PPTP is "small". The compression is slightly better than 1/3, which means full VPN is s...

Start the name suggestions for Mint 10

Since clem has been decided on Mint 9 Isadora (my runner-up) - http://www.linuxmint.com/blog/?p=1253 It's clearly the time to start suggesting names for Mint 10. Codenames in Linux Mint are always female names ending with “a”. They follow the alphabetical order and the first letter of the codename c...

Re: mintupdate doesn't play well with multiple users

Thank you for reporting a bug in Linux Mint. Unfortunately I cannot reproduce your problem, so it's likely that you've changed something as root (using sudo) that has messed up your configuration. If you can reproduce the bug in a fresh install (probably a virtual machine, or a new user account) the...

Re: executable bash script

commands are located by the PATH environment variable. You could add "." to your path if you wanted to run commands from the current directory without the ./ but this could cause trouble. I recommend creating a ~/bin directory, adding that to your path and putting any custom scripts you cr...

to add the line to .bashrc, press ALT+F2 and type "gedit .bashrc" into the dialog, then copy and paste the line into it before saving and exiting. You'll need to use the terminal to actually use the command though.

Re: Nautilus as root - the red color

This is definitely known upstream, since I've found it before, but I think they use other terminology as I really stuggled to find it again. The closest I could get was https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=594167 which is upstream, so they do know about it.

Re: how to scrape url's from a website....

Well, I'm of the opinion that if you make the legal way to get something the most convenient, the vast majority of people will use it rather than the illegal method - online TV for instance. Nevertheless, I found the exercise amusing, so add the following to ~/.bashrc: "function scrape { wget $...
