I did a new Timeshift back up (manual).
Refreshed the update manager.
UNCHECKED the Thuderbird update.
Installed all the other updates.
Rebooted.

Things appear to be working normally.
I will have to avoid Thuderbird updates for a while ...

Well plan "A" and "B" did not work.

Plan "C" (Timeshift) did. I am now back to version 115.8.1 (64 bit). I will "freeze" it there.

You are correct. It is getting old (aka long in the tooth).
The problem needs to be fixed or Firefox needs to be removed from the distributions.

Ditto ... Fireless Fox Updates suck.
It should be eliminated from the distribution.

Maybe I should use the work around but a better approach would be to fix the problem.

Does anyone still use the FireFox Web Browser. It ALWAYS hangs up my upgrades when it it is in the mix?

I would add two more steps to be on the safe side:
1) Refresh update manager
2) Run Timeshift and create a restore point

I did all of the above: Kernel Linux 6.2.0-33-generic x86_64

No change and no joy, Plugging in the USB speakers again

Not so simple considering many of the peripheral manufacturers ONLY provide drivers and/or software for Microsoft Windows.
