Re: Linux Mint 19.1 BETA - Terminal Question

I'm not seeing any option to turn that off in the terminal. Can you be more specific? I've opened it many times now and each time those instructions show. Makes me not want to upgrade if there's no way to turn that off.

Re: Linux Mint 19.1 BETA - Terminal Question

Also, does anyone know how to add 'Recent Files' back to the Menu and in other applicable places? I haven't upgraded since 18.2 and it looks like Cinnamon has tossed the idea of simple convenience.

Linux Mint 19.1 BETA - Terminal Question

So, I downloaded and installed 19.1 Cinnamon edition for testing and I'm wondering why, when I open up the terminal, it gives me an explanation on how to use commands as root. It's annoying. How can I remove it?

Re: LMC 18.2 -- Static Sound

pulseaudio -k fixes the issue without a reboot but is there a way to fix the underlying problem?

Re: LMC 18.2 -- Static Sound

Yeah, I've gotten it intermittently when using LMC 18.1 as well. Other applications cause this sound driver crash also.

LMC 18.2 -- Static Sound

Hey all, So I'm running LMC 18.2 with all the latest updates and such (level 5 enabled) and sometimes the sound goes static. You can still hear whatever's being played but theres a bunch of static to it. It used to do it very rarely but now it's a glaring issue, and I've noticed this in Firefox espe...

Re: Flash Player Update??

A quick update to anyone who's interested, Flash Player version 25.0.0.127 has just hit the update manager as of Noon, Thursday March 23, 2017. No more nags! I wish Flash would just stop being used, and it will soon enough because HTML5 is taking over. I guess just some websites have their content d...

Re: Flash Player Update??

So Ubuntu/Mint has stopped offering updates to Flash (even though Adobe is putting them out) through their update managers?

Re: ** DeVeDe suddenly makes movies CHOPPY **

I just want to add a (very) belated update to this problem. I never did figure out what was causing the choppiness when converting movie files to DVD format. When I installed 18.0 Cinnamon last Summer the problem magically went away on it's own, so anyone's guess as to what was causing it to happen ...

Flash Player Update?? [solved]

Does anyone know when the new update for Flash Player is going to be made available on the Update Manager? The latest available for Mint is 24.0.0.221 but the latest version is 25.0.0.127 and has been for a few days now. So until the update becomes available I have to deal with those annoying nags i...

Taking Up My Memory??

Why does gvfsd-metadata take up more and more RAM everytime I delete a folder containing alot of files (such as source code)? When I use rm -rf in the command line, then gvfsd-metadata isn't affected and doesn't take up more RAM. Is this a bug? Has this been reported by anyone else or documented? I'...

Re: Buying A New Video Card - Which is Best Supported?

How do I install kernel 4.9.6 on Linux Mint 18.0? Do I need to compile from source or is it offered on the repo? Even if it is, can I compile from source anyways? That goes for all programs actually; can I just compile from source instead of relying on the repos?

Re: Buying A New Video Card - Which is Best Supported?

I appreciate the replies, everyone. Like I said, I'm using an AMD graphics card and the official drivers suck. They pretty much sabotage my computer and force me to reinstall. I'm going to check out nVidia (I always liked them better, this computer came with a Radeon) and, hopefully, I'll get better...

Re: Buying A New Video Card - Which is Best Supported?

Thanks, I am running AMD Radeon 7570 and whenever I try to install the official drivers from the Driver Manager it causes all sorts of hangs, memory hogging and general system instability. Then, when I try to uninstall the official drivers and use the Xorg drivers again Cinnamon says it is running i...

New kernel release!

Linux Kernel 4.9 has just been released about half an hour ago.

Quick question: Can I compile my own kernel for Linux Mint or will it cause issues?
