Re: Accessing USB drive via Terminal

Removable storage devices are mounted in the directory /media/ username . Where username is your username and usually you'll find a directory named after the UUID of the device there. So you can use regular shell commands to go there and do file operations. If you're not sure where it is mounted yo...

Have you got a Timeshift snapshot to roll back the last update/change to your system with?
Yes, I restored a backup from early June same thing so I restored it back to now.

Re: Timeshift insufficient disk space

Just wait until Timeshift creates a backup that fills your entire drive leaving you in a login Loop you might as well research that while your on the subject of Timeshift viewtopic.php?f=46&t=308716

I fixed it by turning Timeshift off

Re: 18.3 Booting To Login Screen

Well it appears Timeshift caused the problem. I booted from the Linux Mint 18.3 installation CD then using the File Manager navigated to the Timeshift directory and deleted enough backups that my free space went from 0 to 5 GB free then I ejected the Linux Mint CD and rebooted. Note you will need to...

Re: Cant see part of new hard drive

The new part of the drive is visible just need to figure out how to make it available for use by both Windows 10 and Linux Mint, it would also be nice to share the contents of that drive on the local network. Not sure what you meant by that. Does it mean the rest of the drive is now available but a...

Re: Cant see part of new hard drive

Sounds to me as though there is a problem with the partition table. Did you create mint on this SSD by cloning it from another drive? Try sudo sfdisk -l /dev/sda and see if it tells you anything useful. And sudo sfdisk -V /dev/sda will check the partition table. Cloned the original 500GB drive to a...

Re: Cant see part of new hard drive

I would recommend NTFS for the shared data partition (accessible to both Windows and Mint without file size limitation). Also, do not forget to disable Win10 fast startup and hibernation to prevent Win10 from locking the partition. I use this laptop in remote locations where I have no internet acce...

Thanks for the great reply will give a few things a try and get back to you. Strange thing is I installed LM 19 in VirtualBox and tested the hell out of it before I had upgraded to LM 19 only to discover the VLC problem, I can still run VLC in VB after the upgrade and it works flawlessly, also insta...
