dpkg error trying to install LibreOffice

Hi, great topic. I managed to make my Update manager work but now all my Mint 17.2 looks ugly - this "old" look. Trying to install libreoffice-gtk libreoffice-gtk3 gave me an error: Errors were encountered while processing: workaround-set-acpi-osi workaround-native-backlight-trusty somerville-platfo...

Re: New kernel won't load

Thanks [quote="Pjotr"]
Solved.
It turned out I had a Grub customizer installed and seems like fidling with it helped. There's an option of choosing a kernel there. So, by an intelligent clicking in the dark it worked somehow :)))

Did a few times - doesn't work.
I have level 4 and 5 un-checked - could that be the problem and is it safe to check them?

[SOLVED] New kernel won't load

New kernel downloaded but won't load. I've downloaded 3.13.0-37-generic through Update Manager but it won't load. sudo update-grub won't do the job: sudo update-grub Searching for GRUB installation directory ... found: /boot/grub Searching for default file ... found: /boot/grub/default Testing for a...

Fuse is installed by default on Mint, you just need to install the following packages:

exfat-utils

I succesfully used a SDXC 64GB card, new, and after being formated on a Canon video recorder.

Thanks openfred! It solved my problem.

Problem solved. Solved by fooling computer rather then changing the boot order itself, but, hey - as long as it works out for you. So those of you noobies like me who's still suffering with boot preference issue - here's a simple but working trick for you: 1. Install efibootmgr 2. Try and see if thi...

Can not change boot order [SOLVED]

Hi, can someone point me to the right way to change the boot order. I want Mint to boot first instead of Windows 8 on y my HP Envy but don't seem to be able to do it. Used efibootmgr and used Grub customizer - does not work. The Windows boots first anyway. I've tried to change it while on live USB t...

Re: New EFI boot manager available: rEFInd

In order to change your primary bootloader, you would use the command with the switch -o like so: sudo efibootmgr -o 0005, 0000 Which, for my list above would tell it to boot rEFInd first, then failing that, WIndows. Your numbers will be different. There is a similar command for Windows, but I don'...

Boot Order is not getting set

HI, I want Mint to boot first instead of Windows 8.1 but every time I set the boot order with efibootmgr for the Mint (0000 in my case) to boot first it gets back to the original boot order - SolidState Disk (0001) after I reboot my computer. sudo efibootmgr -v BootCurrent: 0000 Timeout: 0 seconds B...

Re: New EFI boot manager available: rEFInd

Don't know if you've tried this or not, maybe from a live boot of Mint: Use efibootmgr from a terminal. Using just the command, it should give you a list of bootloaders. Use option -o and the hexadecimal number of your rEFInd bootloader to set it as the primary loader. For example, my Windows loade...

Re: New EFI boot manager available: rEFInd

administrollaattori, Thanks for tip! But I'm not an expert in Linux. I tried pointing bootmanager to bcdedit /set {bootmgr} path \EFI\ubuntu\grubx64.efi from Windows, as it said in the linked article, but again - nothing. I checked - my Mint is Installed in EFI mode (if that's any indicator)... but ...

Re: New EFI boot manager available: rEFInd

It really is frustrating. I've tried the method mhbell suggested but nothing happens - win8 still boots first. In fact i've been copying and posting files in Nemo, experimenting and again, nothing.
