Re: Update kills LM17 systems?

I'm sorry; I know this wasn't my thread but I just thought I would post my fix for this (which I found somewhere) in case it helps someone in the future. In fallback mode I couldn't open the terminal so use Cntrl & Alt & F2 to open a virtual terminal (I think thats what it is called) then run the co...

Re: Update kills LM17 systems?

In my case it could be either of those causes because when I was updating the update manager could not retrieve all the updates and asked if I wanted to just install the the first lot and get the others later. I said yes. And I do have one or two PPAs that I have added. The next time I started it wa...

Re: Update kills LM17 systems?

Hi - I just thought I'd add that this is axactly what happened to my Mint machine two days ago I had not used my machine for three weeks as I was away from home. Got home, turned it on, used a few applications, finished working, did updates (just the regular 1, 2 and 3 ones) then shut it down. Next ...

Re: Great that we are back

When I changed my p/w for this forum I saw in my notes that I also have a p/w for Mint community, so I went looking to change it also, but cannot find where I signed it up at. Can someone please point me in the right direction to the community sign/in? (sorry if i'm in the wrong thread - didn't want...

Why are FF settings are changed at next FF start? SOLVED

Hi - has anyone any suggestions as to why some of my Firefox settings change after restarting FF? The ones I have noticed are: settings > advanced > data choices > I untick 'enable crash reporter" and it gets re-ticked at next start of FF and about:config > media.peerconnection.enabled > false - it ...

Re: Why does Cinnamon need PulseAudio

I don't know why - I'm new to linux. I use Gmusicbrowser for my music and configure alsa to be its output method. Alsa sounds so very much better than pulse. I tried a few music players and not all of them could be configured to play alsa, at least not easily for me back in my first week of linux. I...

Re: I need a vpn any sugestions

Air VPN is my go to. You can pay with bitcoin, or with coupons bought prior from seperate coupon sellers with credit card, or the usual credit card of course. You can even connect via Tor if you want. Their only request is that you don't use it for human rights abuse. They act immediately on any pos...

Re: Some final help?

I'm no expert with linux, but I found that when using wine it helps if you also install winetricks. Winetricks helped me add needed files to make my win app work better. Sorry that I can't be more specific as to what files you need. EDIT: there is also PlayOnLinux aka POL, it automates the process o...

Re: Why is the size of /proc 140 TB?

Yes those last terminal entries gave me hundreds of lines with a 0 to the left of them. So them being running processes explains what they are. And at least with someone else having a similar 140 TB I'm not so worried about what I might have done wrong :) Big thanks for your help guys EDIT: thanks a...

Why is the size of /proc 140 TB? (SOLVED)

I have been looking at directories prior to backing up and I find that there is a directory /proc and its properties says it is 140 TB.
How can this be?

In my machine I have two 1 TB hdd's, a 250 GB ssd and 125 GB ssd so nothing that could amount to 140 TB - what is going on?

Re: Which root directories to backup?

Thanks for all your replies! What about my current firewall settings, I'd like to be able to keep a copy of those. In GUFW there is an option to export my profiles but when I do so the exported file doesn't appear in the directory to which I pointed it, but the log says it was exported to that direc...

Re: Thank you to those supporting others here!

Buzzsaw, Xenopeek and WharfRat helped me sort my problems. Especially when my problem wasn't straightforward (it might of been to him but it wasn't to me) WharfRat was patient and stuck with me till I fixed it. At the time I really wished there was a "buy me coffee" type of donate button for each us...
