Re: UPDATE PACK 4 FEEDBACK THREAD

Updated from linux-image-3.0.0.1-686-pae, to this image. Removed compiz as a start up preference first, and then launched UP4. Everything appears to be working, without any (not one) issue(s). Installed Cinnamon (my preference after the GS new car smell wore off) and now ready to tackle the 64-bit v...

Re: Cannot find Windows 7 after upgrading from Mint 11 to 12

To understand the disk geometry (device names, boot partitions, etc) follow / use the commands wayne128 provides in this post here: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=85655&p=495536&hilit=chainload#p495536 Then once you have it clear which partition(s) on which disk are the...

Re: The passing of one of our own

As a father I know that even the thought of the loss of one of your children, is an enormous emotion; one of inconceivable depth. In reading Robin's blog, I see wisdom beyond years and "feel" the words he used to express his love for his family and his love for life itself. My heart felt c...

Re: I.. am Ikey

Welcome back Ikey. I could easily go into allot on the subject of parasites, but I'll just say be careful they usually live in the environment you are drawn to, so re-infection by a mutated and therefore not easily recognizable replica is possible.

Again - good to see you.

Re: FEEDBACK THREAD

Last night (forgot to submit) It worked the same way update was working before. Which means uing the Update GUI, fails with a fix broken packages error. I tried to fix them in synatpic, and with cli and apt-get. The update worked via the CLI with the autoclean, update, and dist-upgrade comman...

Re: Suggestions for Future Releases of Linux Mint

Couldn't agree more. An Arch based Linux Mint spin would be great! I love Arch. I've been testing it / trying to break Arch for the past 9 months (and believe me I can break them - try this, try that, etc). Now I didn't use Arch on an everyday machine, but it got its fair share investigation. I inst...

Re: Installing Julia - Need help with fakeraid

I hate to post links, without having tried the how-to(s) they contain. However, there may be some information there that you can use. For example: "The last stage before you create the file system on your new raid disk is to create your mdadm.conf file. The mdadm.conf file contains information ...

Re: Very good Mint 10 review

Yes this was a very good review. I enjoy the Dedoimedo site for the reviews and a source of information; it is generally very well presented material to learn from. And what we learn from this review is something we all know: that Linux Mint is a real distribution; not just a re-spin. I like what I ...

Re: How to Shrink "Extended Partition"?

What partitions are located inside the extended partition?
Yes the two installs Ubuntu and Linux Mint can use the same swap partition.
You may want to post a screen shot of your partition layout.

At least Amazon doesn't require that you use their download tool anymore. But I find the clamz script works best. How to here:

Re: screen resolution and other issues

open a terminal and enter cd and then a space, and then click on and hold (LH mouse button) the CD displayed on the desktop and drag it to the terminal and then press enter. You should now see the path to the cdrom mounted in media, i.e. ~/Desktop/media/cdrom $ check to make sure you are working in ...

Re: screen resolution and other issues

sportflyer, did you install: "guest Additions Tools"? You need to do this to get the resolution to change. Here's a good tutorial:

@1984,
When you see the count down screen that you described press the space bar. Then scroll down to the compatibility mode.

Re: plugin for silverlight

Welcome to Linux Mint. I really don't use Silverlight (I hardly ever open Windows at home - I get enough of it at work :| ). For Linux there is Moonlight; it's in the repository. Moonlight is an open source implementation of Silverlight. The description from the repository is as follows: Moonlight i...

Re: How To: Upgrade your kernel, painlessly.

Note: if you are using the restricted drivers you may get an error (if using the command line: it will identify the driver and fail). If you just double click the .deb files you may miss this and when you reboot you get a message that Ubuntu will / can launch in low graphics mode, or you can reconfi...

First use this command to see the list of the installed kernels in your Ubuntu $ dpkg --get-selections | grep linux-image Now for example try to delete the oldest one (change oldest kernel with your oldest one) # $ sudo apt-get purge [oldest-kernel-from grep command above] If the kernel you try to u...

Steely,
Nice desktop theme. I need to look at that background when it is 105-degrees plus. Is that art available?
