grrrr. 5 installs no joy. Followed all the info on the net, nothing worked. I asked why I wanted to hang onto win so installed on entire drive - 5 more installs, no joy. Sometimes me no feel so smart. Switched from UEFI boot to Legacy and was able to boot mint. New problem is how to I make a dual boot machine with Legacy selected since windows will not boot from Legacy? Would like a dual boot machine but willing to forgo Win altogether if need be. No IMMU or VT-d in the BIOS. Edited the heck out of the Grub syntax, no joy, guess I'll pick it up tomorrow when I have time. Let me know if you have any ideas. :?

You are correct this makes no sense. MD5 checksums match on all iso files, dvds were verified and all of them run perfectly on my Studio xps 1340 laptop. I compared the syntax in the boot loader for UBUNTU 14.04 and LM 17 and they are the same except for the necessary changes. Black screen of death ...

Tried all suggestions including turning on the splash screen. New info: No splash at all not even the integrity option works. No matter what I try it yields a blank screen and the DVD :-) powers down after 1 minute. I would kike to get Mint up on my desktop.

Live CD no Boot

Dell Inspiron 660s,Intel 4 core i5 3340s, Intel HD Graphics. Will not boot up from CD in either compatibility (xforce) or normal mode. Tried Mint 17 cinnamon 64 bit, mate 64 bit and cinnamon 32 bit. Screen just goes blank after grub and after 1 min cd powers down. Any help?
