The "Network" tab in Nemo seems to be useless.
Linux Mint 21.1 Cinnamon I've got a Synology NAS that has a Movies share on it. if I run nemo smb://Synology_NAS.local/movies in the terminal, it connects to the movies folder and works. I can watch The Maltese Falcon or Tremors or whatever I want on my Mint machine. Close that, eject that share...o...

Re: Lutris GPG Key nonsense, followed instructions in a thread here, gave worse error
Okay. Solution: Uncheck the PPA and forget about getting updates from Lutris. rainbows this. Last time I install an Ubuntu-forked distro, it's going to be LMDE or Fedora from now on. Everything Canonical does turns to problems.

Re: Lutris GPG Key nonsense, followed instructions in a thread here, gave worse error
Sure. Other than it's a fresh install of Mint Cinnamon 21 "Vanessa", what information about the system is relevant to this issue?

Lutris GPG Key nonsense, followed instructions in a thread here, gave worse error
Long, angry sweary rant short: Because Dell and Microsoft are both bad at their jobs, my cousin is now running Linux Mint, she likes the Sims, because EA is bad at their jobs this means Lutris, and because Lutris is bad at their jobs, I've got some PPA key error. Mounting USB drive requires root privileges after waking up from suspend
Linux Mint 20.2 Cinnamon. Fresh boot of the machine, I can plug a thumb drive in, and it mounts in /media/<username> just fine. Lock the machine, let it sleep/suspend/whatever it's called which has also been acting unpredictably lately, log back in, and now mounting or unmounting removable media req...

Re: middle-click drag file context menu?
It really doesn't bug me, I don't use symlinks that often, but it used to work and now it doesn't.

middle-click drag file context menu?
In WIndows, if you right-click drag a file from one folder to another, you'll get a context menu that asks if you want to move, copy, or create a shortcut. In Mint Cinnamon (this describes both my 19.3 and 20.2 machines) you can get a similar menu by left-click dragging, then pressing ALT before rel...

Re: How to install the latest 5.11 or 5.12 kernel ?
Which kernels are supported or not can be seen from Update Manager/View/Linux Kernels. Mint 20.1 only supports 5.4 and 5.8 series. Hi, question. How permanent is the fact above? Like, will 5.12 be coming to Mint 20.1 during its life cycle, or is it not going beyond 5.8 because LTS reasons? I'm only...

Re: Strange text input field behavior in FreeCAD
as a work-around, try triple-click to hi-light the whole text string, then delete. No, they'd thought of that. It doesn't work because if that field is empty, they automatically put "mm" or "in" or whatever your default unit is in as a placeholder, so there's still layered text.

Strange text input field behavior in FreeCAD
Running FreeCAD in LM 18.3 Cinnamon. In several places in it's UI, there are text windows that appear over other text windows. For example, when you go to add a length constraint to a line, it pops up a dialog that lets you type in a value, or you can click an f(x) button to type a Python expression...

Bluetooth audio also doesn't work.
This isn't a request for help, this is just a warning. Don't get fooled into installing Mint 19, it's just too broken. First I had to fix my boot sequence, then I had to fail to fix my graphics, then bluetooth audio doesn't work... Congratulations: It's officially worse than Windows. I'm sorry I was...

AMD hybrid graphics still don't switch for the fourth year in a row
Linux Mint 19.1. Kernel 4.15.0.43. My hybrid graphics still won't behave themselves. I can't get my Radeon card to turn on. I'll try to give the output of some vaguely useful shell commands. lspci -k | grep -EA3 'VGA|Display' 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Haswell-ULT Integrate...

Re: Mint 17 and 18 and now 19 AMD GPU drivers! Look here before doing anything!
Okay, so here is my (stupid, bad, wrong, and the only available) procedure for getting AMD hybrid graphics working in Linux. First, notice that anything more taxing than video playback looks and runs like hot buttered garbage. Second, Google it using half-remembered terms from the last time you inst...

Re: Another Mint 19.1 slow to boot
Swapping the unifying transceiver to another port sped things up considerably. We're now talking about 4.7 seconds for the kernel. I wonder if I could trim a little more speed off by ditching the transceiver entirely and using the mouse in Bluetooth mode. Not really going to bother though. I also ma...

That pared it down a bit: Startup finished in 3.412s (firmware) + 11.749s (loader) + 12.304s (kernel) + 8.471s (userspace) = 35.938s

Re: Another Mint 19.1 slow to boot
The SSD is a brand new Samsung 860 EVO 1TB. System is dual boot Windows/Linux. I'll boot into WIndows and see if there's a firmware update EDIT: No firmware update, there was something about "rapid mode" in there. Didn't seem to help much. Booting into Windows is mighty quick, though I kno...
