Re: Multiple LOGIN screens during Load (Mint 18)

Thanks for pointing my nose at that. It did cut back on LOGIN screens from 3 to 1 which if ignored continues on with the boot reducing the load time by about 15 to 20 seconds. It would be nice to skip even the first one like version 16 and 17 do.

Multiple LOGIN screens during Load (Mint 18)

Is there a way to get rid of the multiple LOGIN screens during load of MINT 18. I have a single user system and do not need a login password. During load I get 3 pauses for a LOGIN PW. If I do nothing they continue on with the load after waiting several seconds. If I enter the password I use for upd...

Thanks, I knew it must have been some amateurish mistake I was making. Using the wrong case in the cd command  I'll try to remember that on the next test :D

[SOLVED] HP Printer Driver

I am trying to install the latest print drivers for a HP2132 All-in-One printer. The drivers that are supplied with LINUX 17.3 Mint are down level and do not support this printer. I found the driver that do support it at http://www.hplipopensource.com . I downloaded the file for this printer hplip-3...

[SOLVED] NETFLIX

I have been trying to find out how to run NETFLIX on LINUX. I've searched on the subject, but am pretty overwhelmed by the discussion. So, I just want to ask one simple question, can I get NETFLIX running on any of the available LINUX browsers? If YES, please point my nose to a reasonable set of ins...

Re: Start up splash screen

Thanks for the directions. After a few tweaks I had to make in order to get the picture I selected to display and after playing with the text colours I finally got the GRUB screen to look the way I wanted it to look.

Re: Start up splash screen

Thanks guys! Just a repeat comment, "Boot speed was never an issue,(compared to what I used to endure with Windows XP, LINUX is lightning fast)". It was the blank screen that annoyed me. OK, I can get used to the blank screen and stop crying  . Installing the "Grub customizer", at least gave me...

Re: Start up splash screen

It's not the speed of the boot that bothers me, it is the blank screen that makes it appear as though nothing is going on. Even the little green LM logo only shows up for about 1/2 second during the process. :? 8)

Re: Start up splash screen

I guess I'm a little thick but I don't know how to do this: "Open the file /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/splash with elevated rights (how to depends from the desktop environment, which you did not tell)" I tried this: gksudo leafpad /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/splash but all get is a blank file, is th...

Re: Start up splash screen

Sorry, but I am still a newbie and there are so many versions flying around in my head I'm getting a little dizzy. Sorry for the lack of information, but you seemed to want to know. Any way, here is the result of the command you asked me to execute: System: Host: user1-Precision-M6400 Kernel: 3.19.0...

Re: Start up splash screen

Sorry, I forgot to mention that this is Linux Mint. Will that change anything with the How to? I'm not concerned with the length of time to boot, just the fact that it is blank with no real indication of anything going on. Would just like to see some sort of activity indication.

Re: Install disc doesn' t see Windows 7 is installed

OK, I'm sure it is because of my inexperience with Linux, but I could not get a dual boot on Windows 7 no matter what I did. Dual boot was easy when installing on an XP machine. Something is definitely different about a Win 7 disk. No matter though, I finally used the following method: 1. Load Win 7...

[SOLVED] Start up splash screen

How do I get something to display while Linux is loading? As it is now, I have a black screen during the entire process with the exception of a 1/2 second flash of the green LM logo. At first it panicked me thinking my system froze while booting but I gritted my teeth and waited and sure enough Linu...

[SOLVED] Changing system name

I moved my hard drive from a dell e6400 to a dell M6400. As expected when I look at the system monitor the System tag shows the old system's name. I have looked at all the applications and can't seem to find a way change the name to the current systems name. I'm sure I just missed it, but can someon...
