Re: Solution for 640x480 resolution problem after installation of Linux Mint 18.3 Mate

Runing Mint 17 Mate and I have an 11 year old HP with 4 mb of ram, and it runs Great, I did have to add a HD though cause the original was only 130mb. I'm using Firefox, KMyMoney, sometimes Opera, and a host of programs off the repository including Open Arena. It should serve me quite well until som...

[Solved] dual boot on a Win10 64 bit laptop

Hi, It's been a while since I've been on, I just bought an HP Win10 home 64 bit laptop. I haven't used Windows in years, and I'm thinking I'll install Mint 18.3 64 bit, as a dual boot OS on it in case I hate Windows as much as I used to. It has a 2 TB HD, and 12 mb of Ram an AMD processor and a dece...

Re: Not mounting disk drive.

I have Mint 17, I tried this and it didn't work, also after rebooting, I couldn't manually mount the second HD. I had to slide the slider back to off, and reboot again before I could manually mount it.

Does Mint getting hacked change security thoughts?

Since Mint 17.3 downloads got hacked. Does that change anyone's thoughts on security? As I understand the issue, it wasn't actually the Linux OS that got broken into, but the software running on it. Correct?? This seems to be a fairly hot week for hacks, two of my relatives running Windows 7 got hac...

[Solved]

The answer wasn't to far from what I expected.
The owner of the router, didn't remember the right password. After I got the right password, it still wouldn't connect, until I turned off my firewall. Then it connected normally. After connecting I turned the firewall back on, No problems.

Re: Linux NFS to snap server, file sharing

Have you tried calling Overland Storage, it looks to be the same SnapServer trademark. Maybe if you can get to the right person they can help you troubleshoot it. Multiple calls if you have to, because degree of helpfulness and knowledge can vary greatly from call to call, that sort of thing. I'd b...

Re: Linux NFS to snap server, file sharing GIGILO

Ok, I took break and came back and tried Gigilo. As a bit of history, I tried Samba, then about a half dozen other ways to get this Snap Server 1000 connected to my Linux 17 MInt Mate box. The closest I've come is what I have right now. I'm using Gigilo to do the connection and connectting to it as ...

Re: Linux NFS to snap server, file sharing

For nfs, I make sure my uid (the number, not the name) is the same as my user on the nfs server so I can read/write the files. I also install autofs. After installing autofs, I edit /etc/auto.master and uncomment /net, make sure there is a /net directory and reboot. To invoke the automounter, you'd...

Re: Cannot connect to a OLD SnapServer 1000

I just read an article that stated that most versions of Linux cannot connect to an NTFS folder? My snap is formated NTFS! It stated that Redhat did have that capability.

Re: Cannot connect to a OLD SnapServer 1000

Well I didn't get anywhere with NFS, so I'm back to Samba.. Mint connects fine using Samba, I can see all the files ,, I just can't get any rights. Today I set up an old XP box I had laying around. And it connected to the Snap, in a snap. At least now I can pull the files of it and move them to my p...

Re: Linux NFS to snap server, file sharing

If I could make a suggestion here in case you haven't seen it - there's a "bump topic" link at the bottom of posts that you start - it is better suited for your intent than is opening a topic that is ostensibly a duplicate question. Thanks for the suggestion, I may be burned out, but I can't find t...

Re: Linux NFS to snap server, file sharing

I cannot get my Mint 17 box to connect to my Snap Server 1000 using NFS. I've been on this for a while and already burned out on samba and ftp. I had given up when I reread an old post that stated NFS was about the only thing left to try. Any ideas? I don't know anything about a Snap Server 1000, b...

Re: Cannot connect to a OLD SnapServer 1000

Ok, I've tried everything and read everything everyone has suggested. Sometimes I get close, and often I can see the files on the server, but no access to them. I've tried nfs, and Samba. I don't know anything about fuse. Below is what "sudo mount" gets me: /dev/sda1 on / type ext4 (rw,errors=remoun...

Re: Cannot connect to a OLD SnapServer 1000

"^gary@gary-HP-d530-CMT-PP420UA ~ $ sudo mount -t nfs 192.168.1.116:LongTerm /mnt" The only thing I can think is to try adding -v for verbose mode, and specifiying a specific folder /mnt/snapserver, maybe it will tell you it has done something . I assume that it can be pinged. When it sits there, a...
