Re: Automounting USB not working

Right. So after playing around with the box last night, I discovered that an update had ran afoul and managed to screw up several packages, yet amazingly left me with an otherwise stable system. An "apt-get install -f" fixed all of my issues.

Automounting USB not working

Hey guys, long time no see. The "family" computer is currently running Linux Mint 10, and for some reason or another, the "automount" feature suddenly disappeared as of today. I'm posting in this specific board because I'm pretty sure this is a problem related to GNOME. Plugging ...

PGP Problems

Hey all, I've been trying to install some packages from http://ppa.launchpad.net/pmcenery/ppa/ubuntu/dists/karmic/Release.gpg but every time I try, it complains about not having a valid PGP. So, I've tried adding it by downloading the Release.pgp file, and adding it using this command: sudo apt-key ...

Help with Radeon Xpress 1150

Hello all. I have a Gateway laptop with an integrated Radeon Xpress 1150 card. Everything seems to work fine, until I run any games, or WINE, while using Compiz. I've tried using the propriety drivers, and I've also tried it without, the same thing happens. Basically, the game (or WINE environment) ...

Try turning off Compiz, I had the same problem, and couldn't really find a work-around.

Re: making linux mint felicia most secure

You could look into using TOR. It's slow, but much more secure than your average proxy network, and when setup to work with socks4a, it is pretty much impossible for anyone to spy on what you do.

Re: Mint: a great OS, but ...

You could use TrueCrypt, encryption software rarely comes pre-installed since the average person doesn't need it. It's a fully graphical program as well. Get it by opening up a terminal and typing sudo apt-get install truecrypt Or just go to the package manager and install it from there if you reall...

Re: A few noob questions

Usually that small skip is an option that the player gives you. Im no expert on vlc, but you should look through the settings, there might be something you can change in order to help that along.

Re: Unable to browse the internet

I'm doubting that it is something on Google's side, but it is very odd that you are only able to open certain sites.

Are you positive there is nothing else on the network that could be blocking your access to certain websites?

It could be an configuration problem I suppose...

Re: help using the iNES emulator

I've personally never used iNES, and haven't ever had any problems with a NES emulator, but it looks like an emulator specific problem than a solely Mint or even Linux problem. I think you should go to the iNES forums for this, since this really probably isn't a Linux Mint specific issue.

Re: no boot no POST no beeps no nothing

That seems like quite a problem you've got there... I personally have only encountered something similar once, on an ancient zombie computer that is made up of pretty random parts I salvaged over the years, running at a measly 366MHZ when overclocked :D. Anyway, it would refuse to boot, no BIOS scre...

Re: Thanks Husse & others, but I am finished with mint and linux

Though I hate to say it, I somewhat agree with him. As I personally see it, Linux is much more about innovation than about stability, and BSD (which Mac is based on) is certainly based entirely on stability. In my own humble opinion, I believe that Linux should be used either as a toy for learning m...

Re: A few noob questions

1: Simplest way, click on Menu>Preferences>Appearance . Simple drag the theme you downloaded onto it. No need to extract it. 2: Yes, you would put any command there that would start it up in a terminal. So you would put "vlc" there for Vlc. 3: The beep sounds more like a hardware issue tha...
