Re: Changing GPU without restarting machine or run app on differeng GPU ?

You might try bumblebee for your request. It allows to launch certain programs with the dedicated NVidia graphics, whereas the system runs with the Intel graphic. Without Bumblebee it is impossible to switch the graphics driver without logging out and in or - depending from your OS and OS version - ...

Re: Mint in VirtualBox protects me from Windows snooping?

The answer depends from the settings of your VM. The most important part is the used network adapter in the VM. If you stick with the default NAT adapter, the VM (regardless of the OS in the VM) cannot see or catch the connection of your host. So sticking with the default adapter is recommended - it...

if there's a text login prompt, then hold down the power button for approximately 4 seconds until the computer powers off This is a dangerous advice, which can lead in the worst case to a corruption of the file system - with possible data loss. Re: Thunderbird does not take new mails

I only can recommend to make images of the entire hard disk in defined intervals and additionally create backups of /home/user on a daily basis. That is, what I tell since years and I also wrote on a number of places, that not backed up data is superfluous data. I recommend Back in Time for that pu...

Nemo is the name of the file manager of Cinnamon. You find it in the menu not with this name, but with something like "files" (this is language dependent), but if you enter nemo in the search bar of the menu, the entry will get remain in the menu as the single one. Other ways to open it ar...

The cause for wrong ownership of files or folders is in 95 % always the same: The wrong usage of the command sudo. There is a general rule, which allows no exception: If you need to launch any graphical program with elevated rights, you must never use sudo, but instead gksudo. Doing this wrong can l...

Yes, this makes sense, as I found, that between 12:00 and 12:32 there is a gap in the active topics index. As discussed on another place it would be needed, to provide another kind of information for the user, e. g. a page which says, that the forum is not reachable for maintenance reasons and that ...

It just happened again, exactly 3 minutes after high noon (local western european time, should be the same for xenopeek). Re: How to search Forum

What Pierre and richyrich told you can be made much more easily, if you use the Firefox-extension Search Site. This is not limited to the forum, but works for any web-site, which has a search capability (like new-sites, Wikipedia and many others).

Re: Two search features that I can't find

Regarding #1: This is not doable with nemo. You could use gnome-search-tool for searching for content, but: this will only work for text files and a view others (like html or rtf), but not for office documents or pdf. I recommend DocFetcher for this purpose. I have provided a tutorial about the inst...

Re: how to show autohidden panel with superkey / windows key

Several things cannot be done in Cinnamon with keyboard shortcuts, e. g. navigate in the settings and unhiding a panel. You might use the intelligent autohide feature. Not quite the same, what you want, but leads to the result, that the desktop area is clear, if the active window occupies the same s...
