Re: New people need to stop using 18.X and use 17.3.

it's still yesterday's stuff. This is a phrase, nothing more. If "yesterday" means stability and "today" means bugs, yes then I am a man from yesterday and I am proud about it. Values supersede higher version numbers! I don't care about the small, unimportant bugs in 18.2. And I...

Re: New people need to stop using 18.X and use 17.3.

What you name a mosquito - do you even know, that this can be a very dangerous animal? - is for others a serious thing. In one case I named it above as a deal breaker. And what might be the reasoning to use a version with bugs (I only mentioned a few, there are more), if there exist a version withou...

Re: how to remove all security/encryption on HDD that has password prompt at desktop login-window (mate18.1)

For greater safety I recommend to do the backup on an external drive. Only if this is disconnected during the system operations they are really safe and also protected against user's mistakes (which I do here and then, so they can happen to anybody).

Re: how to remove all security/encryption on HDD that has password prompt at desktop login-window (mate18.1)

Open the folder /home (not your own home). If you see the folder .ecryptfs inside, than it is encrypted. Note, that you must make the hidden files visible (ctrl-h in the file manager) to see this. Or you use the command ls -la /home in the terminal.

Do a backup and install new. The auto-login is not the problem, but the encryption of the drive is.

P.S. No need (and not good) to open a second thread about the same question.

Re: Login prompt during installation?

after 45 minutes`appears screen to login - username and pass. Please don't take it personal: I don't believe that. No screensaver will ask for the username. Please provide a screenshot. Also the system - especially the live system - will ever log you out. (In this case you would not be in the scree...

Another addition:

To ensure, that the culprit for the change case issue is not the virtual environment, which I use for the 18.x systems I started LM 17.3 Cinnamon in virtualbox and did a test with the pre-installed gedit 2.30.4. Result: It works there as expected.

Reread the thread, e. g. my last reply. The new defined username and password are for the new installed system,
& not for the live system.

Re: want to remove crashed linux folders

If all of your data on A have been backed up, format the drive. You must ensure, that the drive - more correctly all partitions on the drive - are unmounted. You can use the disks tool for formatting.

Re: Files vanish - don't go to wastebin

If the deleted file is in your home, than the deleted file goes into a subfolder of .local/share/Trash (usually into the subfolder files). If the deleted file is on another partition, than a folder names .Trash-1000 (the number can be different, depending from your user) gets created there. So in an...

Re: use Software Manager or Synaptic? [SOLVED]

Synaptic gives some advantages: You can see (from the context menu of packages) recommended packages, you can reinstall a package if needed, you can search (if needed) for broken packages, it has a history, not to forget the very comfortable quick filter bar.

Re: Nemo has stopped showing pdf previews.

As y new account is also affected, there must be a problem in your system, perhaps an accidentally removed package. I have searched for this issue, but I did not find a helpful link. Perhaps you are able to remember, when this problem started and what you changed in the system shortly before.

Re: New people need to stop using 18.X and use 17.3.

There are a couple regressions with the Ubuntu 16.04 base ... but also in Mint itself, which are (supposed to be) under the control of the Mint team. For example the wrong ownership of files, created by the update manager. Or the silently removed delay, when you move with mouse diagonally in the Ci...

Re: Files vanish - don't go to wastebin

What is your version of Mint and what is the desktop environment? If you don't know open a terminal and enter:

Code: Select all

inxi -Sz

Paste the output here.

Where were the files stored: On a partition, which is part of your Mint system or on another partition, internal or external drive?

Wichtig is nur, daß du nach dem Hinzufügen in den Anwendungspaketquellen anschließend ober rec...
