Re: Image viewer + scrolling available?

What is your version of Mint and what is the desktop environment? Which kernel and which architecture? If you don't know open a terminal and enter: inxi -Szxx Paste the output here. You need to give this information for every help request in every thread. Do not forget this in the future. Maybe you ...

Re: Do updates of level 1 the most important?

In addition to that, what karlchen said: The meaning of the 5 levels is not their importance, but something quite different. What exactly depends from the version of Mint. So without knowing your Mint version more details cannot be given. Regardless of the Mint version there is one special thing: Up...

Re: unknown password locking you out of bios/boot? SOLUTION!

A predefined password to prevent the customer for getting into BIOS setup? Very unlikely. What is imaginable is backdoor password, which allows service technicians of the manufacturer to open the setup, even if the customer did not provide or did forget the self defined password. https://www.lostwin...

environment supported 2 years Not even this is the case. If I look into the history of Mint 18 Sarah (now 2 years old) and leave out updates for update manager and the needed update for mint-artwork-common, than I find the last updates for any mint-packages back in the first months after its releas...

Re: What NOT to install from the repositories (Mint 18.x)

I just happened to see another reason, why TimeShift should not be taken from the Mint repositories. Out of a strange reason the Mint team has modified the TS version and has built in the dependency for its own libxapp library, a library for x-apps. TS is no x-app and I have not enough fantasy to im...

Re: Transfer TimeShift file to USB flash drive

I use the script in post #3 above to transfer the TS snapshots from my internal HDD to my external USB HDD Tony George (TS developer) provided some time ago a command for moving, but he stated at the same time, that this is not recommended. Following that I will stay for the question for moving sna...

All content in /usr (and other system folders) are under control of the package management. You cannot rely, that manually added or changed files stay untouched.

Re: flatpaks

1. Is there a way to stop Auto Update? Deactivate the flatpak auto-update in autostart settings (regarding Cinnamon). For the rest: I did not install any flatpak and it will be hard to find out, because you can never say beforehand, which of them gets updates at which time. And the announcement doe...

Re: Support for older versions

They don't want to work on boring bug fixes in their spare time. Then they should be more careful with their promise. Linux Mint 18.3 is a long term support release which will be supported until 2021. means with my little common sense: Until 2021 found bugs will get fixed during life time. I do not...

Re: Configuring Thunderbird

TB collects all addresses, which you use for sending mails. By default they get stored in "Collected", but this is changeable in the preferences -> compose (naming can be a bit different, because I translated from German). The personal address book should get used for addresses, which are really imp...

Re: Do not have permissions when saving picture

Sorry but that is just gobble degook to a user like me! What exactly? My advice has been used in the past by 100 + users. I intentionally do not use any special terms, but only things like press this key-combination or that, open a terminal, click a button. I am always ready to enhance my advice, b...

Re: Support for older versions

In principle the support time is promised like this: For any Mint 17.x until next year, for 18.x 2 years more, for 19.x another 2 years more. Actually I have hardly seen any bug fixes for Mint components (Cinnamon or anything else); exceptions are extremely rare. This is the cold truth since years. ...

Normally, one would see the icon for Firefox in the title-bar for Firefox, but I don't see that anymore. There was never an icon (at least with the default themes of Cinnamon). Re: Configuring Thunderbird

I rephrase the advice: If you are in the compose window you should see at the left side the contacts; if you do not see them press F9 to make them visible. Now mark the contact you want to use and click at the bottom the button for CC or BCC. Now a (B)CC field with this address gets added to the hea...

Re: Thunderbird - export

actually you can drag and drop a saved .eml file from it's folder into the Thunderbird folder of choice. To my understanding the OP wants to transfer all of his mails, that are most likely by far more than some ten, perhaps hundreds or thousands. Dragging thousands of mails does not sound, what is ...
