Re: How do i change lockscreens wallpaper?

Some more questions: Is this a fresh install of Mint 18.3 or is this an upgraded system? If so, what was originally installed? In which field exactly did you define the picture? (A screenshot might help to clear this up.) You did surely not do this in the lockscreen settings, as Moem already wrote. ...

Re: supposedly there's an extension that auto-hides the 'taskbar with the icons'?

Once you add function to a empty panel that launches menus and tasks then it's a taskbar as it's been known for 20years for both Linux and Windows. And again - and not unexpected - wrong. It is called so in Windows and there this correct. In Linux (= kernel) this can never be true, as the kernel do...

Re: Question regarding PSENSOR application

The window list - by some people named taskbar - is the place, where the icons for the opened program windows get shown. It is in the panel, more or less in the middle of it.

The questioned psensor setting is the second last on the preferences window.

First mistake: The system specs are missing. What is your version of Mint and what is the desktop environment? If you don't know open a terminal and enter: inxi -Sz Paste the output here. You need to give this information for every help request in every thread. Do not forget this in the future. sudo...

Which version of VB?

Are the guest additions installed inside of the Mint guest? Which version? Press in the running guest host-n to find this information.

Re: Disable Alt-Mouse drag

There is no need to install the dconf-editor, this setting is already present in the Cinnamon preferences GUI. Open the window settings -> behavior -> the second last option allows you to change it. Also disabling the feature can be done; there is no need to use another modifier key, if this shall n...

Re: What is Mint's current "official" recommendation about updates?

If you want so, you have the official answer here , but this surely not the place, where the users (with a small exception) will likely find them. Proper documentation on the proper place would be needed, but if this does not exist, we cannot invent it. I am all but surely not a Mint official. But I...

Re: supposedly there's an extension that auto-hides the 'taskbar with the icons'?

It doesn't matter, it's function is to launch the menus and the tasks (and shows the tasks running) so it's a taskbar. No. It (= panel) is not even able to launch anything. It is a container, not more, not less. Add a second panel to the desktop and see yourself. Without having any applet added thi...

Re: [FIXED, the problem was Nautilus] How to crash/mess up Nemo Desktop and your wallpaper in 2 steps

Getting Nautilus silently installed can happen, if recommended packages get automatically selected to get installed. E. g. cheese is such a case.

What I cannot understand is, that Xviewer, an own Mint program, shall prefer Nautilus to Nemo; this would really be strange.

Re: Question regarding PSENSOR application

The normal minimize button would minimize the program into the window list and use the space there, which is rather limited. Psensor is made to control the computer in the background. You can activate the option to minimize it automatically at start.

Re: supposedly there's an extension that auto-hides the 'taskbar with the icons'?

A taskbar is an element of a graphical user interface which has various purposes. It typically shows which programs are currently running. The Cinnamon panel itself does show nothing, not the currently running programs and nothing else. Only the applets show something. Remove them and the panel wil...

Disabling all additional repositories is not a problem; by default they are not enabled.

If the PPAs give a problem depends from the PPAs, a general answer is not possible.

No need to unpack it. In the running VM go the VB menu devices -> optical drives -> load ISO image (wording may differ a little bit).
