Re: Fake Firefox update tab

Not following this "advice" was the only correct reaction. What you could do is to use the build in function to report the site: menu icon -> help icon -> report fraudulent sites.

As you did not say, which version of the browser you use nothing more can be said.

Re: Mint is hanging frequently

Does your system swap at all? At least the inxi report says no (at the time of execution); so changing its settings is waste of time. Further more swapping would reduce the speed and responsiveness of the system, it would not freeze it.

@JamesKB:
What do you see here in this thread?

What I see is this: Your last post is the second last on page 2, followed by a post by DaveB. On page 2 the first post is my last post, followed by a post by Schallaven. All in the original thread. Did you perhaps miss the second page of this thread?

What is your version of Mint and what is the desktop environment? If you don't know open a terminal and enter: inxi -Sz Paste the output here. Close the quick starter of LO, in case it is active. Open the file manager and make hidden files visible (ctrl-h). Go into the folder .config inside of your ...

Never any reaction with the reisub method in those 10 days? Or did it happen only once again in those 10 days?

Try to use the reisub method while the computer is still reacting. Close all programs before you do that to prevent data loss, Does reisub work now?

"The latest version" is not a precise answer. It could be, that you mean 18.3, but do you have an imagination, how often users user an older version (of whatever software" and only believed , that this is the latest? So number please. Besides that, your answer does not tell anything a...

Or Time Shift is not an imaging program No it is not an imaging program, but merely a specialist backup program for the system with the ability to keep several states of the system for restoring. What are the chances that if someone only applies level 1-3 updates that a program or Linux will be dep...

Re: Mint is hanging frequently

So I'm under kernel 4.13.0-26 (which surprises me, I though I was under 4.10, but for sure I haven't change it last week). I doubt this, as the Meltdown patch came only 1 week ago. Nevertheless you can see in the history (available from the update manager -> view menu), when you got it. Try to inst...

When did this problem appeared at first?

Create a fresh new user account and try to reproduce it there. Do no setting changes in the test account.

Re: Firefox Secure Connection Failed Error

This is really a very strange phenomena. The case, that a network card does not work is known, the case, that the hardware does not work with secure connections is new to me. Perhaps the kernel 4.13 gives the problem? What you can do to test is one of both: 1. Download the iso image of Mint 18 or 18...

Re: Frequent freezes

Try kernel 4.4.x (x = newest). You can install it from the update manager -> Linux kernel. Note, that you have to load the kernel at first manually: If you boot the machine, press and hold the shift-key immediately after powering on, until the grub menu appears. Select from the advanced sub-menu ker...

So, no dots appear there, if you type; correct? When did this problem start to happen? Does the system react, if you try to switch to a virtual console? Try it with ctrl-alt-F1. If this works, you can go back with alt-left. Does the system react in the login screen on mouse clicks? Not to forget: Wh...
