Re: Linux Mint XFCE close to KDE's end?

There is also no "thumbnail" for lmde. Does anybody believe, that Clem writes (in October's blog) about LMDE3 and than gives it up silently? There is also not "thumbnail" for the forum. Who does believe, that it will silently die? There is a page design, which gives room for 5 of...

Re: Linux Mint XFCE close to KDE's end?

I have no idea, about which "thumbnails" you are talking. But quite obviously Xfce and Kde editions are listed on the download page as they had been there for years.

If someone writes in conjunction with Cinnamon about Nautilus I do believe nothing on the first run, but wonder, why he writes that?

Re: File permissions again again

There is no need for sudo for this command, Recommending sudo, if it is not needed does give the risk, that sudo gets used wrongly, as we can see here (in correlation with nemo). So out of the current situation I repeat the old warning : Never us sudo for launching any(!) graphical program! This cre...

Re: disable window when new filesystem in mounted

No, it wouldn't. The proper place for that setting would be in org -> cinnamon -> desktop -> media-handling. But why the complicated way, if the setting is already there via GUI?

Re: Nemo gives black screen

Obviously not an ownership problem, the output gave only the infamous update manager bug output for ~/.chache/dconf.

On the other side none of my questions have been answered and I do not work with crystal balls.

Re: Virtualbox 5.1 upgrade SOLVED

Yes, upgrading VB to another major version (where in x.y.z x or y are different), makes an uninstall of the old version necessary. The extension pack should not be a problem. As soon as you launch the BN manager for the new version the first time you will get a prompt to update it. Don't forget, tha...

Re: gpg key

The question indicates, that you do not actively use it. So for you there is most likely only one, but essential usage for a gpg-key. The package management uses it to verify the authenticity of the packages, which you install or update from the sources in the web. You should not touch this, otherwi...

Are you really sure about nautilus? By default Cinnamon has Nemo as file manager. There you have in the preferences -> behavior near the bottom the related settings.

Re: Kernel Confusion

It seems, that at now there is no need to switch from 4.13 to 4.4 for your machine, but it is not quite useless to do a test, if you want. If you find, that 4.4 does work for you also you have a kind of plan B in case, that the successor for 4.13 should fail for you. Note that in case you want to tr...

Second: I cannot remove every VirtualBox related package in the tty1 session (Ctrl-Alt-F1). It says that such packages do not even exist. Tell us exactly, which package do you want to remove and wherefrom (host / guest)? I told you already, that you cannot go into the virtual console of a guest wit...

I am working with this way of investigation since 3 years (and impossible to count the cases), but this has never happened until now. So I wonder, if you did something wrong. To give me at least an impression take the first 20 lines of the output and provide them here.

Re: Linux keeps hibernating or sleeping.

When the laptop lid closes the screen goes black I understood your first sentence in the starting post, as if the computer would suspend or hibernate out of its own - and this should not happen with the default settings. Of course if you close the lid it will suspend, as you requested this with the...

Thanks. did you mean for me to transpose my user name as 'user'? No, you have to leave the command as given.. Or better: Copy it and paste it into the clipboard. And yes, I am sure, that I want the output completely. As I described inside code-tags. The one line, that you reported, does alone show,...

Re: Linux keeps hibernating or sleeping.

Neither in the live system nor with the default settings of a fresh system the system does automatically suspend or hibernate. So there must be something else. Does the system crash? But most importantly: What is your version of Mint and what is the desktop environment? If you don't know open a term...
