Re: Transferring Thunderbird settings

At first close TB completely.
Now compress the hidden folder .thunderbird. Transfer the compressed file to the new system and unpack it.

Re: Multiple Desktops

When I went to the "applets" box and activated "workspaces" it inserted two desktops. Then you must have removed the other 2, maybe by error. The friend I set up the install for asked me if those desktops are customise-able. I told him no, but just to be sure, was I right about that? This depends, ...

Re: Difference between Timeshift and Backup Tool

This question deserves an own thread with more information (does the drive show in the system / file manager?). So here I only say, that I use an USB (3) drive as backup target regularly with BiT.

Re: Will running 32bit on a 64bit PC cause 'nomodeset software rendering mode'?

It came up with the 'nomodeset software rendering mode' warning while still in LiveCD mode. In a virtual environment it is totally unimportant, if your hardware supports 64 bit and if your host OS has 64 bit architecture. The thing, which is important is the version, which you selected in the first...

that's True - - Num Lock is generally Enabled or Disabled - - in the PCs BIOS . . .
This does not work on every hardware. For me I have in BIOS numlock set to on (as I can see with the behavior of the numeric keypad in the grub menu), but in the login screen and in the desktop numlock is off.

Re: Can't get an image preview at file manager

Nemo doesn't provide such a feature for the side pane.

Use instead xviewer or pix for image browsing. (I would prefer pix; actually I use its predecessor gthumb.)

Re: Can't get an image preview at file manager

Mark the file, where you want to see a preview, and press the space bar. To see the preview of another file mark it and press space bar again. You can close the preview window also with space bar.

Re: after installation gimagereader doesn't start

No, 3.1.2 is old. As yo can see here. Your output - as far as I can understand it (I don't understand Italian(?)) - indicates, that you do not have the ppa in your sources.

Re: after installation gimagereader doesn't start

This is a rather old version. Add this ppa to your souurces: ppa:sandromani/gimagereader. Now update gimagereader; after refreshing the update manager you get the update offered.

You did not write, which command you used in the terminal. So what do you get, if you enter gimagereader-gtk %U?

Do you have the package python-imaging-sane installed. At least older versions if gimagereader need it (not sure, if this is still the case).

When I copy something from Downloads there is no entry to paste into my thumb drive, yet I can drag it there.
Possibly you did a right click in the folder pane, but you did it on an existing object, not on an empty place. You find the command for pasting also in the edit menu.

Re: General question about Timeshift..

The needed space for snapshots depend from 2 factors: 1. How big is the system. Not the size of the partition, but the actually used space. 2. How much gets changed in the system. Too give a scenario, let us assume, that you have set to do hourly snapshots. Now the hour has passed, that there did no...
